Serbian President Boris Tadic says that during his visit to Washington this week, he will seek to explain to U.S. officials his country's opposition to independence for Kosovo.
Mr. Tadic told reporters Tuesday he will tell American officials that granting the Serbian province independence would threaten the security and stability of the entire Balkans. He called the current Kosovo situation the result of the Serbian government's disastrous policies in the 1990s.
The Serbian leader spoke at a Belgrade news conference shortly before departing for the United States.
Mr. Tadic is to meet in Washington with top U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Vice President Dick Cheney as well as influential lawmakers.
United Nations mediated talks between Serbian and Kosovo Albanian representatives on the future of the province have achieved no major progress.
Kosovo's majority ethnic Albanians seek independence. Serbia insists on maintaining control over the province.
Kosovo has been under U.N. administration since 1999, when NATO airstrikes drove Serbian and Yugoslav security forces from the province.
Lets wait and see...
At which point Secretary Rice will pull out the minutes from her meeting with Prime Minister Kostunica from July and ask whether President Tadic has something new to say or not.
Should be a short meeting.
and you are expert in thi smatters due to the fact that you seen Rice only on TV.
the only thing he is doing is shoring up support back home. The fate of Kosovo has been determined and the official announcement wont be made til a "moment".
Commenting the first two days of his US visit, Tadic said that the stances of the US and Serbia differ considerably regarding the Kosovo status situation, and that he is getting the impression that the US administration supports some form of Kosovo independence. source
half an hour?
Than president Tadic must have ben too polite.
I dont need half an hour to tell "NO" to constructing new islamic state on Christian land...
Hell, he could just send her an postcard!
:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Neither did President Tadic - Kosovo's final status was just one of the topics being discussed. The SOFA signing, general Serbian-EU & Serbian-American relations, and issue of Serbian ICTY indictees were also part of that 30 minute meeting.
The long and the short of it is that Serbia is a nation of 7.5 million*, and you're just not all that important in the big scheme of things. As soon as Milosevic's legacy is sorted out, you may as well be Bulgaria for all we care.
