When I had a serious operation about 5 years ago I looked at the recovery period and happened on to an American site. People were discharged in 2-3 days post op. Here it was 6-10. On the 3rd day post op I saw the consultant and said I wanted to go home. He agreed it was a good thing to do, "saves getting hospital infections." And so I did. I think private medicine probably makes decisions sharper.

US insurers want to turn off the meter. Also getting the post-ops up and moving greatly reduces the liklihood of adhesions.
