STEVE Irwin's grieving wife Terri will have the final say on whether footage of his last moments alive is made public.
The head of the US TV company that broadcasts his show said today the film had already been handed to Queensland police preparing a report for the Coroner as fans worldwide come to grips with the freak death.
Billy Campbell, the president of Discovery Networks, which owns the Animal Planet channel, said it was far too early to decide what footage viewers would see from Irwin's fatal trip on the Great Barrier Reef.
Talks would take place with Terri at a suitable time, he said.
"It's still too early," Mr Campbell said. "We'll have to take a look at it."
Irwin suffered a deadly blow from a stingray yesterday while shooting footage for a new show he was doing with his eight-year-old daughter, Bindi.
Mr Campbell, who will fly to Australia for Irwin's funeral, said he would also ask Terri whether she would like Bindi's show to go ahead.
"In terms of the Bindi show, a lot of that will depend on the conversations I have with Terri in a couple of days," he said.
"I want to give her a few days to mourn and think through things. "We'll talk about that in due time.

I have no wish to view footage of his death.

I really hope it isn't. Somethings shouldn't be public. I would hope that his children would never stumble across it somehow.
According to an article linked on Drudge, the stingray which attacked and killed him was 2.5 meters in size.
He was evidently following a 1 meter, 100 kg ray at the time.
It's so sad. He never had a chance.
On the one hand, the urge to produce this video is no different from any other snuff porno. On the other hand, I almost suspect that Croc Hunter would have wanted it produced as a way to respect the innocent animal that reacted to him by instinct.
Wow, a few days. That is pretty thoughtful of the guy.
I'll only see it if Terri gets behind it. I expect an extended tribute show will be the venue for it.
Nor I! I will miss his "dainger,dainger, dainger" as he picked up snake or whatever - I got to use that line several years ago when I picked up a little king snake that my husband saw as a boa constrictor; a delicious moment. Irwin was one of the good guys, I will miss him!
Dasher,I was in Sydney when the incident involving his newborn son and the croc occurred.I was amazed by how much newspaper and TV coverage it got.
That coverage suggested to me that Irwin was some kind of national hero down there.Of course,I may have misinterpreted it,however.
As for showing the video....my attitude is "hey,you can find beheading videos on the web with no trouble at all,so....."

I don't think the footage of his death should be released.
I do think he would want the Bindi show to go forward.
It's not going to show anything. It was all over in a flash.
If Steve wasn't a national hero yesterday, he most certainly is today.

I just wanted to extend my condolences to you and other Australians...I saw John Howard on TV today...he really seemed so very sad to lose Steve.
You KNOW that video is going to get out on the internet anyway...it would be better if Steve's wife and the Discovery Channel could maybe figure out a way to use the footage in a sort of retrospective, maybe in a few months.
From what I read on another thread...there is no blood, and it really doesn't show much...perhaps Steve's body being taken out of the water...but, nothing graphic from the way it has been told so far.
