CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program
American Family Association ^

Posted on 09/04/2006 10:58:10 AM PDT by TucsonJames

CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program It is time to tell CBS and the other networks that enough is enough!. Not content with all the profanity already on TV, CBS has decided to air the profanity-laden unedited version of "9/11" on Sept. 10. The decision by CBS is a slap in the face to the FCC and Congress, which recently raised indecency fines to $325,000 per incident.

"9/11," which will be shown in prime-time, contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity. CBS has stated they have not, and will not, make any cuts in the amount and degree of profanity. CBS will ignore the law. The network is suing the FCC over the indecency law, saying they should be able to show whatever they desire whenever they desire. CBS wants no limits.

This is a test case for CBS to see how far they can go. If there is no out-pouring of complaints from the public, they will go further the next time.

The profanity is so bad that CBS has warned their affiliates that they could be subject to huge fines. The FCC says it will fine not only the networks, but also affiliates if the law is violated. Under the new Broadcast Decency Act the $325,000 per incident could run into millions of dollars not only for the network but also for local affiliates.

This is WRONG! I am pro-family, but I cannot see them be against showing this progam without editing or censoring it. I created my own "Call To Action" and this is my letter. Feel free to use it to respond if you want:

Normally, I would support your "pro-family" ideas. I am against the proliferation and normalization of homosexuality in this country, I am outraged at the degradation of women in rap videos and movies, and am horrified at the growing death cult that is the Islamic religion. It is maybe that last point that caused me to be shocked by your organization's disapproval of the re-airing of the CBS program "9/11". Your reasoning behind your protest of this show -- that there is profanity --is simply a narrow-minded, reactionary response to something that shaped all of our lives. The fact that the firefighters in the program use salty language to express their horror on this country's worst day is the essence of what all of us felt on 9/11/01. Don't you remember how you felt? Do you think you uttered a bad word on that day? Your protest of this show may accomplish your basest goal, but it forsakes the larger goal, which is to never allow the citizens of this country to forget what these Muslim dogs did to us! Thousands of people lost their lives at the hands of this death cult, and now we have Liberals trying to keep the memory of this show off the air. You have inadvertently joined that group. I ask you to reconsider your "call to action" and let local television affiliates show this program without fear. Instead, please consider telling your group to keep their children away from the television if they must, or not to watch it. But this country needs to be reminded of what happened on that awful day, in its true unadulterated form, lest we become complacent and ultimately Liberals. God Bless James Maumus Tucson, AZ

Yeah but I didn't do it in public. They can do this without the language. A lack of bad language isn't going to make 9/11 go away.

I don't know. This smells like an attempt to get righties to oppose what many are saying is an excellent, evenhanded retelling of the story. But their website looks legit...

Does this show reality or is it a recreation? Is the profanity coming from commentators or people who are experincing the actual events?

To me, this would make a difference.

AFA is a real organization. But they sometimes go too far.

It's a documentary. Not a recreation.

Is the profanity coming from commentators or people who are experincing the actual events?

People who were actually experiencing the events. The first profanity in the film is when they see the first plane crash into the Towers.

The trouble with organizations in business to show outrage is that they inevitably step over the line. At that point they begin to lose credibility.

The AFA has gone around the bend on this one. But that's nothing new. Still, I suppose they'll get some contributions out of it, and that's their goal.

I'm sure the fireman with the building falling around him said, "Oh, darn!"

Just say no to the AFA's money-grubbing.

What's the idea of slanting this story via your made up headline? It's clear you're biased against the AFA. When I click the link, I see the correct headline is: CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program

It is time to tell CBS and the other networks that enough is enough!.

I applaud your control, it is much better than mine. I remember watching the smoke plume rise into the sky over the Pentagon and using profanity.

This documentary is showing the actual words of the first responders and people around the WTC. I do not think their words need to be either beeped or edited out. This is how most people react to disaster. I fully understand YMMV.

Perhaps they just don't want to spread the nasty rumor that people in NYC curse, ever.

Who gives a s***? If I decide that I don't want to listen to a bunch of f****** profanity on TV, then I can just change the G** D*** channel.

Maybe this is one way they are trying to keep people from seeing this without not showing it - make it so profanity-laden (like most hollywood films) that nobody wants to hear it!

I really don't have any interest in "shock jock" profanity for the sake of it, because it's the only way to draw viewers into a bad program. Profanity, nudity, and violence are usually cover ups for a bad script.

This isn't what that is here.

Airing real footage of unscripted events, especially when that event was 9-11, is the right thing to do. Otherwise why stop there? Should we sanitize the real blood split? The terror on people's faces? Bodies dropping from buildings? I realize the media already does this, but still.

They are wrong on this one. It should air unedited if this piece is as it has been described. Brutally honest about the events it covers.

CBS didn't make it "profanity-laden." It's a record of what people saw and how they reacted.
