Why the Dems Don't Get It (on national security)
The American Thinker ^ | September 1, 2006 | James Lewis

Posted on 09/03/2006 10:55:00 PM PDT by Clintonfatigued

The Republicans are hardly the last word in human wisdom, but right now they are the only ones acting normal. Sure, Democrats think they are making sense, but that’s only when they talk to each other. There aren’t enough grey-beard loons in the country to win national elections. What the Dems don’t get is that they have flagrantly and repeatedly crossed a clear red line in American politics: The line between being for our country or against it.

Forget the word “patriotism.” The question is, do Democrats favor a strong and vigorous America that protects itself—- and the entire West—- against a monstrous and aggressive ideology? Americans don’t want to be in doubt about that. For the Democrats to be so completely blind to the signals they constantly send out is weird beyond words. It is self-destructive, and it degrades our political dialogue. We need sensible Democrats. As it is, the sensible ones who speak up are purged, like Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller.

The only explanation I can think of is that liberals have in their minds substituted internationalism for nationalism. They have slipped into a belief they can’t own up to.

This is a great editorial about why the Democrats can't be trusted to protect national security.

There's nothing accidental about this. Democrats are ashamed of this country in a very profound way and it's been as such since before anybody heard of a 'Bush'.

It's a socialist party in total denial of itself, intent on impressing and winning over the favor of everyone except their own countrymen. That's the 'something' in their message that can't be spoken plainly and honestly.

I think Dems' problem with understanding national security is two-fold.

First off, their opinion makers came of age during the Vietnam draft era. Their "glory days" when they were 18 years old, still had their hair, were spent angrily opposing a war.

It forged their view of the world.

They now, are stuck. They cannot understand that Iraq is not Vietnam. Because Vietnam is all they have ever understood.

The other part of their problem, is Richard Nixon.

Nixon, in retrospect - would have done well to act like Clinton.

He didn't. Believing resignation was honorable - he exhibited the weakness, with which the left destroyed him.

There's a lesson there.

Outstanding and astute political observations. I just had to send an email to him expressing my gratitude.

This weekend, for the first time in a long time, I'm afraid this won't matter, and that the American public will just decide they want "a change". When people FEEL they want a change, reasoning with them won't help.

A point to remember is that the rhetoric of the Democratic Party has been HIJACKED by the Communist/Socialist/Maoist Anti-War crowd, with MASSIVE financing from Soros,et.al .....

Without the massive CASH thrown around by Soros through MoveOn, the World Workers Party organ TruthOut, and others, Liberals wouldn't even be allowed at a reasonable discussion.

As MoveOn said in 2004, they have "Bought And Paid For" the Democratic Party, while sane and sensible Democrats are left standing outside in the rain, wondering what happened...

The "Machine" is trying to fight back, and retake control, through things like moving the 1st primary to a Machine-Controlled State, but it's already too late for them....

What is really pathetic is they are supported by nearly half the population. How the hell can we win a war when half of us want to lose?

I know what you mean because that was the mantra on all of the Sunday news shows. The question I have is WHO is saying that the American public wants "change" or what kind of change is it that they want? I still can not believe that the Moonbat party is a change that is acceptable to most thinking Americans. IMO, a lot of this is wishful thinking by the Democrats who are feeling less confident about their success in the mid-terms and are trying to encourage their voters and discourage ours. They are trying to counteract the news about Plamegate and the reminder that all Americans will get on the fifth anniversary of 9-11 of just which party is serious about the GWOT.

Most average Dems get the war on I-F. It's just that the Dem party is ruled by far-left wackos who don' get it. They hate Republicans more than I-Fs because Republicans are the ones who are foiling their plans to turn America into the Sweden of North America. Wacko libs can't remember yesterday and can't think beyond the next two hours. And that's stretching it.

"The question is, do Democrats favor a strong and vigorous America that protects itself—-"

No more so than than those Republicans who, since 9/11, have failed to secure our borders. Seems to me that, regardless of party, the only legitimate discussions about national security are held by those who understand that our borders should have been secured on 9/12.

WOW!

No one has said this better, with more power, in fewer words.

This article should be emailed to everybody on everybody's list and read verbatim on the air by Rush, Sean, Mark, Neil et al.

And the next time the Rats bring up the "don't question our patriotism" crapola, this article should be politely shoved in their faces.

Michael Barone used the phrase "Secular Trans-nationalists" to describe the voters who defeated Joe Lieberman. Seems to fit right in with this article.

Have you ever listened to Rush talk about our Revolutionary War. One third of the populace was all for it, another one third was against it and the last one third could care less, one way or the other. I am afraid that nothing much has changed.

There's no doubt the rats embrace the internationalist view.

Add in the precautionary principle preached by the UN, bureaucratic "soft law," and the supression of private property use and individual rights in favor of the collective common good, and you're looking at the American version of soviet socialism.

I believe that at least once a year every patriotic American should shake their fist in a bureaucrat's face and tell them to back off or else.
