"I thought that too, but apparently he is married. I thought he was gay too with the tight muscle shirts and all."

Corwin had his wife on a show, one of the "behind the scenes" deals, and she was VERY attractive.

I think the effeminate goofball persona is mostly for the camera. As for his wardrobe...dunno. Remember the Saturday Night Live skits about the Effeminate Heterosexual? :)

Horrible, but he was always a risk-taker. May he rest in peace, and prayers for his wife and 2 young children.

As Frank once said to Billy Idol, "I have chunks of guys like you in my stool!" (Phil Hartman as Sinatra to Sting as Billy Idol, "The Sinatra Group" sketch, Saturday Night Live)

:-)

I can hardly believe it. I was literally stunned reading the headlines on Yahoo. RIP, sir. More guts than I'll ever have.

Another one who's obit I think we'll be seeing sooner rather than later is Jeff Corwin

Or Adam Savage from Mythbusters.

Bite your tongue! He's a single dad, i would'nt wish death on his little girl's dad. Besides, his partner will keep him from and real harm. Adam is a goofball, but if you saw the episode where they shocked him as a joke with an electrified fence power supply, he got REAL angry real fast at how potentially dangerous it was, and I'm sure more was said off camera.

I don't scuba dive, MS, but yes, please put me on the list. I would enjoy reading those threads. Thanks.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm not "wishing death" on anyone. I don't want to see him hurt at all. I just worry about him not taking as many safety precautions as he should sometimes. Perhaps there's a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff they don't show. Jaime seems to take more care. The other three, sometimes even less.

He's married with twin sons according to the IMDB.

Yea really. He was all about showing reality of nature wasn't he?

What's insane is thinking his family would choose to watch it over and over again.

"I can hardly believe it. I was literally stunned reading the headlines on Yahoo. RIP, sir. More guts than I'll ever have."

I'm stunned, too. He seemed to be truly one of the good guys, and he was a hard working, intelligent, loving, charasmatic man who preached the love of nature without ramming politics down your throat. He took a failing zoo his father ran and made a virtual empire from it, saving animals and raising knowledge of nature and animals, employing hundreds and entertaining millons. If I could achieve what he did IN ONE YEAR, I'd die content - he did more in his short 40 odd years than most people can hope to, and he still had time for a family, along with his passion.

I sometimes questioned shows that interacted with the wild, instead of filming it from safety. Nature will kill you fast if you're not fast on your feet and know what you're doing, and I guess the odds were simply stacked against him, and they caught up with him. I have a feeling his wife understood, accepted and championed the risks he took, because he was doing it before he married her, and she was a big part of his work after. I can't even imagine how she's feeling...probably much the same way a wife of a soldier feels, or a police officer, or firefighter. Steve was'nt saving lives, or chasing criminals, but he took the same risk every day, without falter, so he could promote the knowledge of animals, and how they behave, and how to avoid a deadly confrontation with one.

This may be the end of this kind of show. Good or bad? I don't know. He took huge risks interacting with deadly reptiles and animals, and god knows I was as fascinated with seeing them up close and personal as he was...Was it worth it? I think he'd think so. His mission was to teach, and that he did, very well.

RIP Steve. You loved life, and we can all take a page from your book. You went too young. Godpseed.

Interesting. He said in a radio interview last year he was single.

Who knows, it's none of my business. He's still a dad! :)

Oh, I wrote that semi-tongue in cheek. :)

I think the daredevilish, sloppy, risk taking is more of the editing and writing of the script, than reality - if you catch them in interviews, their stunts have to be okayed by their insurance company, and also have to be okayed by local, state and Federal officials, and they always use saftey booths, ear and eye protectors, and if you look around them, lots and lots of support staff (and emts for some of the stunts).

I think the most danger he faces is when he picks up power tools, anyway. :)

None of the other animal people were as exciting to watch as Steve Irwin. I can't believe it was a stingray that got him. He will be missed.

I always thought he would slip in the shower, or get hit by a bus. I never thought an animal would get him. He always seemed to be on top of his game whenever he was around dangerous animals.

BTTT -- What's the odds he tried to handle the ray? Or he could have been just swimming along and startled a ray sitting buried in the sand, and whammo! it nailed him.

Great guy, a man's man, what a way to go -- damn!

All condolences to his widow, family, and friends.
