Great Cats - National Zoo FONZ
The Great Cats exhibit on Lion/Tiger Hill features Sumatran tigers and an African lionliving, breathing, roaring great cats. They are ambassadors for their wild relatives, and for the Zoos conservation and science initiatives for tigers, lions, and many other cats, which, even if not great in size, are still great! Cub Update and Debut Information The cubs were recently weighed at 18.2, 21.2, and 24.6 pounds each. At the cubs' first exam on June 8, the male weighed 6.8 pounds, and the females weighed 5.8 and 4.8 pounds each. This is Soyono's third litter of cubs. There are fewer than 500 Sumatran tigers in the wild |

to me, a tiger is the most beautiful of big cats.
I'd love to scratch their nose and paws (but would lose my hand and a few other entrails !).

Magnificent :~)My first instinct is "I want to pet them!" but then reality sets in as I recall that Momma Tiger could rip off my entire head in about one eighth of a second :-)
The pictures and the webcam will do just fine, thank you very much :-)

Takes a steady diet of trolls to raise kitties. Hope they put a keyboard inside the den.

Thanks for posting this! I didn't see any tigers on the cams just now. Will save the link and try again tomorrow.

to me, a tiger is the most beautiful of big cats. At times like this, I wish that I had a Zoo Vet as an acquaintance, who might be able to sneak me in to pet an amazing animal like this if it ever was tranquilized for any medical or maintenance needs. It would be so great to run my hands over the fur and feel that big heart beating..
Truly one of God's greatest creations. (a ways down the list from Ladies, of course, who are His supreme achievement).
I'd love to scratch their nose and paws (but would lose my hand and a few other entrails !).
Yes, typing and submitting posts at FR becomes a bit problematic if you've had your arms and head ripped off my a Momma Tiger who didn't appreciate your interest in her cubs :-)

Thanks for posting this! I didn't see any tigers on the cams just now. Will save the link and try again tomorrow. You're welcome :-) Just before I posted this thread, Momma Tiger was pacing back and forth (sort of sad to see) and one of the cubs was rolling around on the floor. I'm in Seattle and I got a really good feed with almost no breakup, so hopefully you will be able to see them tomorrow.

Just checked again and I saw mama pacing along with one of the cubs! Way cool! Mama sort of looked anxious, like she wanted to zot someone.

The Catoctin Mountain Zoological park just up the road from the DC zoo, in Thurmont, just outside Frederick, MD is currently featuring its new cubs, a trio of albino Sumatrans born just 2 months ago.
This is a friendly, private zoo sitting on 100 mountaneous acres with a large and extraordinary collection of rare and exotic animals. Members are able to have a personal relationship with many of the animals.
Visit. It will change your viewpoint about zoos.
