Is Suicide the Conservative Alternative?(Interesting Read)
NewsMax ^ | 8/29/06 | Philip V. Brennan

Posted on 09/03/2006 1:12:40 PM PDT by Treize

The other day I watched a panel discussion about the forthcoming congressional elections. The panel's conclusions ranged from Bob Novak's grim report that some believe the GOP could lose as many as 30 House seats in November to John Fund's suggestion that all is not lost (maybe), to Human Events' John Gizzi's fear that Republicans will sit out the election to National Review Kate O'Beirne's less gloomy outlook.

All, however, agreed that the key to this election is Republican turnout.

If GOP voters, angered with their party's failure to live up to conservative principles, elect to stay home, Election Day in November will be an absolute disaster.

Most of the pessimists — and that includes just about every political guru around — insist that Republicans will sit it out, thus handing control of the House at the very least, and maybe even the Senate, to the Democrats. I'll accept that view only if Republican voters prove to be either politically suicidal of just plain stupid.

The concept that it's a good idea to wreak vengeance on the Republican Party by standing aside and allowing Democrats, who will proceed to wreak havoc on the nation, to take over Capitol Hill, is nothing less than a death wish that borders on insanity.

Getting even with congressional Republicans for failing to live up to your expectations by throwing them out of office is on a par with killing yourself to get even with your doctor because he failed to cure you of a bad cold while you are still suffering from a chronic disease that requires constant medical care.

The mood among conservative GOP voters may be sour, bitter, and resentful, but I can't believe that when Election Day rolls around and they recognize the consequences of staying home and handing the Congress over to the thoroughly demented Democratic Party, they won't bestir themselves to go out and cast their votes for their Republican incumbents or candidates, even if they have to hold their noses while they mark their ballots.

It is, after all, better than the alternative which is just plain unthinkable.

Think about it.

As the results in the recent Connecticut primary once again proved, the Democratic Party is in the hands of its now totally deranged, MoveOn.org wacko-left wing.

Democrat Chairman Howard Dean made that clear when he pronounced the leftist victor Ned Lamont the party's man of the future. The Party is now so far left that that they even dumped a certified liberal such as Joe Lieberman who votes slavishly for every item in their leftist agenda, for apparently not being liberal enough on the Iraq war.

What rational, sane, intelligent conservative Republican would want to see a congress that from day one would set out to destroy everything they stand for and for which they have fought so hard? We have an economy that is thriving, and it's booming thanks to the Bush tax cuts that took money from the spendthrift federal government and gave it back to the people who earned it and know best how to spend it.

A record number of taxpayers received and average of $2,100 tax refunds on their 2003 tax returns. They spent it, pouring billions into the economy which then took off like a rocket. The Democrats want that money back. They think it belongs to them.

Those tax cuts helped to create millions of new jobs, spark the establishment of job-creating new businesses and put more spending money in taxpayer's pockets. (And even vastly increased federal tax revenues along the way.)

All that would go into the trash can once Democrats got back in office and raised taxes, as they promise to do. Give them a full term on Capitol Hill and the economy could take a nose dive, unemployment skyrocket and scores of small businesses go under, driven down by new taxes and the kind of strangling government regulations Democrats just love to hang around our necks. Any new jobs would be with the government.

Look at the record:

Forgive me, but you are either a troll or a fool or both.

I am neither. I just don't share this election-year alarmism. This is just the Bushies' way of saying to conservatives "Okay we played you for fools for the past six years but if we can scare you enough, we can count on your vote yet again."

So, who's the one being a fool?

I plan to vote and I'll be supporting Republicans all over but if the Democrats take one of the two legislative houses, it's not the end of the world some portray and it might just wake up some of the Bushies that they can't govern without us conservatives any better than we can govern without them.

The "Comprehensive" Immigration Bill would pass

Not likely. Bush would get the "credit" and the Democrats want nothing to do with that. Perhaps a worse bill might get to his desk but, if it did, the Democrats won't be able to sit on the sidelines as they do now and pretend they had nothing to do with it.

The likely outcome if the Dems took the House is two years of stalemate because neither party wants to give the other issues to run on in 2008 and neither has the power to get their own agenda through without bipartisan help.

This is just an amazing piece of truth - I hope everybody who has any relative who is even considering staying home on election day will send them this article - it might help to wake them up.

What would help wake up the vote better would be Republicans acting like Republicans, and acting like they control the majority of government... Or maybe just passing along e-mails, instead of figuring that the party eventually answers to the people who put them there.

With Sand-Nazis out there trying to kill me and mine and you want to turn the legislative branch over to the party these same Sand-Nazis are rooting for makes you worse than a troll. If that offends you, then too bad. Be offended, be very offended.

Such intelligent discourse could only come out of the same cesspool Andrew Dice Clay draws from.

Well, let's take another look at your stealth democrat assertions:

President Bush would still be president and would still be able to veto any bill that did not pass his muster. With the immediate impeachment proceedings, the government and our national focus would be swept away from the war against terrorists, not to mention the effect upon our courageous patriotic military. Your offering is a typical democrat ploy to 'give punishing the pubbies a try'.

The RINO Senate would probably moderate any extremism from the House. Allowing the democrats to take the House will toss the Senate out also because dem votes would be the majority and dems vote in block, they don't split tickets. Again, your ploy is transparently in favor of getting the nation firmly under democrat control.

The GOP will be sent a lesson that ignoring the conservative wing means loss of power, just as much as ignoring moderates. You are obviously seriously misguided to cut your nose off to spite your face ... this is an ugly, irreversible move, allowing the democrats to take control. In two years of democrat entitlements, the nation can be bankrupted in favor of democrat voting blocks like the 40 million illegals they want in this country asap for the 2008 election.

The Democrats will have lost a campaign issue for 2008 when they would try to argue that a GOP-led Congress is leading us down the road to ruin. You are blind and or ignorant to the realities if you cannot see what mischief the demcorats can create over a two year period in control of House and Senate while impeaching the President and destroying the military they despise.

The mainstream would get a quick reminder, just in time for 2008, what unstable kookballs now run the Democrat party. That assertion is proof of your sympathies since the lamestream media are already in the demcorats jockstrap bigtime! Giving them what they have worked so hard to accomplish doesn't discourage them one bit. I'm so glad you revealed your true nature in this.

While nobody wants Nancy Pelosi, John Conyers or Alcee Hastings running the House, a quick taste of what it looks like might be the very BEST thing that could happen to reawaken the conservative base and drive them to the polls in record numbers. Your suggestions aren't naive, they're insidious persuasion to suicide. Nice try.

That's what I think as well. His TX buddy, amothersonforever (obviously cut from the same piece of burlap) turned me over to the mods, after hurling some real gems that I am sure the mods will interested in seeing. The Loonitarian handle probably "splains" it all. We have one here in Riverside (CA)who runs a cr@ppy little used book store. His frothing at the mouth invective is particularly vehement when directed at Republicans.

This is not rocket science. You guarantee a Democrat takeover if you continue to push for amnesty and open borders. Not only that, but with Democrats in control you will have 12-20 million new Democrat voters guarnteeing a Dem Congress and White House until long after you are dead. This lab experiment has already been run - in Los Angeles and most of California. The result is a totally blue state on its way to Aztlanian secession.

However, you guarantee a Republican victory, even landslide, if you campaign against amnesty and open borders.

If Rove and Mehlman think this pandering to law breaking millions is the way for Republican success, they will have lots of time to ruminate on their folly in their K Street offices while writing their memoirs and collecting 7-figure salaries.

You, however, will be losing your jobs to the illegal hordes who will force America's withdrawal from the world to accommodate their social welfare causes. You worry about cut-and-run now? Wait till America resembles Argentina.

Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton were the best things that ever happened to the conservative cause and conservative Republicans, because their incompetence and stupidity turned the American people against liberalism.

The elitist Republican leadership (except for the Sensenbrenners) obviously did not learn the lessons and are emulating Clinton and Carter. Maybe turning the country over to the traitorous Democrats is what it will take to get Republicans back to the principles that put them in power.

We don't need two parties pushing the same Democrat agendas. If you don't want to lose the war against Islam (let's be truthful), drop the suicidal amnesty crap.

Thanx. I admit I get a little worked up, but to lose this election I think will be a political Stalingrad (not just for the GOP, but the nation) that we might not be able to recover from. Is that worth "showin' em we really, really p!ssed off?" I say h&ll no. Why don't these guys go play on clownposse, where their poisonous anti-Bush rantings are more than welcome?
