MEHR Letter to J. Duff @Washington National Cathedral, Re: Khatami

MEHR has sent the following letter to Jean F. Duff, Managing Director of the Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation:

Dear Mrs. Duff,

It is a shame that your organization has extended the former President of the Islamic Regime an invitation to visit the US for a speech. It is very sad and disturbing that the Ex-President of a terrorist regime is allowed to address an institution that is supposed to stand for freedom and democracy.

The fundamental rule of international law states that a superior may be held criminally responsible for the conduct of a subordinate if he or she had reason to know that the subordinate was committing or planned to commit the crimes and the superior did not take all necessary measures to prevent or repress the crimes. This rule is reflected in international instruments such as Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, the draft Code of the Yugoslavia and Rwanda Tribunals, Convention against Torture, and the Rome Status of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Under these laws all states must conduct an inquiry when a person alleged to have participated in torture, is present in the territory of the state. If satisfied that there are reasonable grounds, the state must take measures to ensure the person's presence on its territory, and initiate proceedings to either try them or extradite the person to a state that will try them.

Under this rule, the torture, kidnapping, political assignations, stoning, and executions that occurred during Mr. Khatami’s Presidency qualify him for being prosecuted. We urge you to honor your institution obligation to observe the international and humanitarian rules and don’t host the former President of a terrorist regime. If your institution really stands for justice, you should demand Mohammad Khatami’s arrest rather than honoring him.

Sincerely,

MEHR

Cool coincidence. I know Ms. Duff (not Mrs. Duff, BTW, though she is married--Duff is her maiden name).

Jean/Jim, Khatami's regime declared war on the US long ago, he has supported terrorism for decades, and has sworn to wipe out "the Great Satan" as they call us. Imagine how the history books would be worded if prominent US establishments had invited Adolf Hitler to speak in DC in 1938. It's not the way you want to be remembered.

Be assured his ilk will kill Catholics as one of the first in line for the mass graves they plan for us infidels. He does not deserve the respect of your podium at the National Cathedral.

I hope Khatami is taken into custody, prosecuted to the full extent of the law, and held at Guantanamo until Iran delivers us its unconditional surrender. I say that in part to hope you're thusly spared of being blamed for an unmolested, honored reception ito DC.

Ted Kennedy's behind this, just as he was for Maggie, right?

You say you know her... Personally? Have you written her?

The only feedback I've gotten is that the people at Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation are ticked-off at people writing, emailing and calling them to complain.
Nice attitude

Yes, I worked with her in DC for about three years back in the late 70s and early 80s. I saw her briefly a few years ago at the Starbucks at Wisconsin & Mass. She's a nice lady, but I really suspect Kennedy is working an anti-US, BDS angle here, as her ties with Ted are close.

It befits her background that she'd be at the National Cathedral.

These aren't Catholics.

They're Episcopalians -- flaky as a tractor-trailer full of granola.

There's unfortunately a strong strain of anti-semitism and pro-Islamic sentiment in the Episcopal Church.

Hmmm. I'd been to the National Cathedral a couple of times, and its Metro stop is Catholic University of America/National Cathedral. What did I know as a kid from Protestantism?

I used to BE an Episcopalian, but their extreme nuttiness -- abandonment of the Bible and the Anglican tradition, the denial of Christ, and the consecration as bishop of a man who left his wife and two daughters to live in a homosexual relationship -- drove me screaming across the Tiber.

So you can see why I'd be just a leetle bit sensitive when somebody confused my present Church with the madhouse I fled. < g >

The National Cathedral is a splendid building, I'd recommend it for a visit. Sorry to hear the leadership is doing crazy things.

The Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation

The Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation (CGJR), one of the five centers at the Cathedral College, is a new initiative of the Washington National Cathedral to promote justice and reconciliation throughout the Anglican Communion and across the world. The Center forges effective partnerships within the Communion, between Christian denominations, with interfaith partners, with governments, NGOs, and the private sector to address the root causes of human suffering.

The Center seeks to strengthen its partners’ existing programs by improving communications, mobilizing resources, and building on successful models of justice and reconciliation. To ensure that its activities are always directed by the real needs of the poor, the Center works closely with the churches of the Southern Hemisphere, and has a special partner relationship with the Church of the Province of Southern Africa, led by Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane. The Center is directed by the Reverend Canon John L. Peterson, and managed by Jean F. Duff, M.A., M.P.H.

For more information about the Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation, please contact Jean F. Duff, Managing Director of the Center, at jduff@cathedral.org or (202) 537-2178.

Very telling, but not surprising these days. Check out the second paragraph in a report of the Center's September 11–13, 2005 Consultation of International Religious Leaders on Global Poverty:

http://www.cathedralcollege.org/pages/cgjr/pastEvents.shtml

The Consultation of International Religious Leaders on Global Poverty opened with a Day of Reflection on Global Poverty, including a speech by Dr. Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and special advisor to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan and concluding with an interfaith service of music and prayer, featuring the Most Rev. Njongonkulu W.H. Ndungane, Archbishop of Cape Town, South Africa; the Most Rev. Frank T. Griswold III, Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the USA, former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Madeleine K. Albright, and the Rt. Rev. John Bryson Chane, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington.

Oh, and check out where the Center's Senior Advisor, Warren Clark worked. 'Spose he knows Joe Wilson?

http://www.cathedralcollege.org/pages/cgjr/staff.shtml

Earlier he was a career officer in the U.S. Foreign Service. He was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Africa and U.S. Ambassador to the Gabonese Republic and to Sao Tome and Principe. He also served at the US Mission to the United Nations on the Economic and Social Council and in the Security Council where he represented the US on Middle East and African issues. He speaks French and Eastern Arabic.

The Shadow Party

"On the economic front, he is shorting the dollar in global currency markets, trying to force a devaluation. At the same time, Soros is orchestrating a nationwide movement to encourage mass immigration into the United States, and to mandate the provision of free social services to illegal immigrants. These measures alone have the potential to bankrupt the nation. However, if they fail, Soros has another program that will certainly finish the job. A long-time Soros operative named Jeffrey Sachs has been placed in charge of the United Nations Millennium Project – a global war on poverty designed to transfer wealth from rich countries to poor ones. Sachs is currently demanding that American taxpayers turn over $140 billion per year to his global welfare bureaucracy."

The only thing missing was Bill Clinton preaching. I wonder what the gargoyles on the cathedral looked like that day.
