That is just plain common sense.....and it can't be legislated or regulated, you either have it or you don't.
It is not the government's responsibility to watch over us, but they should indeed make people aware that there is a dangerous trend emerging.
Making people aware is one thing......but that is not what is going on here, what is going on here is that people are being conditioned to expect the government to do something about it and thus failing to take personal responsibility. I don't need the government telling me how to conduct my life because they are pandering to the lowest common denominator which is incapable of taking care of itself.
It's analogous to when the Surgeon General discovered evidence that cigarette smoking could cause cancer, it would be wrong for him to have remained silent about it.
And look where it has led us........people made their own decisions based upon that information, but people didn't like those decisions and so changed it to say smoking WILL cause cancer....when that didn't work they started claiming exposure to other people's smoke will cause cancer.....and that has now led to all types of intrusive laws and regulations...all over the hype of something, that some day, may cause an increased risk of getting something, maybe........
Sorry, but I am an adult and quite capable of making dietary decisions for my family. I don't need some bureaucrat telling me what I should or shouldn't do because a bunch of lazy lardbutts are incapable of cooking a meal.
Change a few words here and there, and we have the template for the war on Big Fat.
As we always knew.
I can remember a volunteer I know came across a young pregnant woman who had no clue how to cook. She bought box mixes, frozen dinners or fast food. This volunteer took the woman shopping for months helped her pick out real meat, fruits and vegetables and taught her how to cook real meals from them. The young woman turned out to love to cook and her family had real food and real meals. The patience it took to do this was amazing, but the result was that a child was well nourished with real food.
Government regulations did not accomplish this, it took a compassionate volunteer to see what this woman needed and provide it.
I am not suggesting legislation. Either is the article.
And, if you take the approach the you either have common sense or you don't, then why bother with any kind of education?
Making people aware is one thing......but that is not what is going on here, what is going on here is that people are being conditioned to expect the government to do something about it and thus failing to take personal responsibility.
You'd better provide chapter and verse on your observation. I see nothing of the sort in this article. This article is merely presenting some startling facts that may alert people to be a bit more vigilant about what they are taking into their bodies.
Any concept can be abused. And, that includes watching out for the public welfare. Personally, I am glad that the Surgeon General made it known that cigarette smoking can cause cancer. That knowledge may well prevent me from getting cancer some day.
If there is some dietary or cultural trend occurring that is rendering Americans obese. Damn it, I want to know about it so that I can protect myself and my loved ones. This is one cultural trend we want no part of.
There is no "nanny state" activity here. There is the dispensing of important information. Perhaps it does not apply to you. But surely, it must give some Americans pause.
