I did too, actually. Ah, the great circle of life!

As a recovering alcoholic I can attest to the fact that I have had plenty of disgust thrown at me. :^}

I also have 30 year old clothing I still wear that are 7-8. But when I buy clothing recently, The 7-8s all seem too large: eased seams and Lycra. I admit the 4s are rare for me,although I have a couple pairs of chinos in that size, but I have recently bought several 5-6s. I go to shops that specialize in riding clothes for jeans that are still slim cut with no stretch and then I still fit a 7-8.

Only wealthy people can afford to high protein diets and have enough leisure time to exercise and stay healthy.

Ridiculous. A can of beans is less than $1.00. Chicken pieces can easily be found for under $2.00/pound. Eggs are $1.00/dozen. And the poor can't afford a high-protein diet?

As for exercise, how many of these poor have cable television, and how many hours do they spend watching it?

No, the poor are fat for the same reason they are poor: they put instant gratification above their long-term good.

I think too, we are living in a space age world with stone age bodies, we were meant to be on the move, hunting, gathering, picking plants and so on, the reason for fat is to store a reserve in case of lean times.

First, sorry about the loss of your cat. I know pets can be a source of great affection and love.

Now, in reply. I agree. That's why I peddle an exercise bike as I Freep.

lol

OBESITY....the NEXT Cigarette!!!! Following that? Sugar indulgers, starch indulgers, MEAT indulgers, and then? ANYTHING THAT HAS A FACE! Following that? People with knee problems because they PRAY, people with TOO MUCH money because it causes STRESS... SCREW ALL OF THEM....

Why?

Because we don't cowtow to their BS and we don't believe in the same $hit as they do....

I would think that given the cost savings for Social Security and private pensions, we should encourage obesity (and smoking). It would solve the looming pension crisis.

Oh I doubt it.  I've known smokers who live well into their 80's and 90's!

I just feel like I myself am such a 24/7/365 carnival of problems and weaknesses that I have no room to ridicule. Ok. Ok. Except the moos. I hate the moos. I admit it.

I know dehumanizing is the first step in the "education" process, so it's a useful tool for the usual suspects.

Yep.  More Dumbing Down Of Americans!

There is no "nanny state" activity here. There is the dispensing of important information. Perhaps it does not apply to you. But surely, it must give some Americans pause.

If you do not see the nanny-state hands in this I feel for you. I believe I proved my point in commenting regarding your analogy with smoking and cancer.....look where that "information" has brought us.

The lawsuits against the fast food industry have already begun based on this hype about an obesity "pandemic." And many of the same people who iniated the lawsuits agains the tobacco industry are behind the fast food lawsuits, and even brag about how they will use the arguments they honed on big tobacco to bring down fast food.

Walmart shopping is an adventure in freak shows. I recently saw a young woman.....she had so many rolls of fat on the front of her it was spellbinding. I finally realized she was bra-less and those bulges went all the way to her waist......I have not ventured into walmart since. Who can grocery shop....and to top it all off........she had a bare midriff. Enough to make a sane person fast for a week.

No need for individual responsibility. It's not your fault. We'll take care of it for you. Just give us money

But if you smoke--we will ban your nasty "habit" because we have rights. We will force you to partake in your bad habit only in your home (until we can ban that too).

What goes around comes around. I think we need supervised government intervention and exercise for the fatties. Shut down the fast food places and make 'em the next money boon for the states. Make 'em pay and make the tubby's suffer by banning all fast food and forcing them to cook in their own home.

It is only for THEIR good we do this.

I think that there is where the difference between us may be....7/8, 5/6, 9/10 are Junior sizes. I can't wear them, I have to wear Misses; 8 or 10. There is a difference in the cut. I'm 5'10 and weigh 120-125, with long legs and long arms.

Excellent points.....it is actually far cheaper to eat well balanced meals than it is to eat junk food/prepackaged foods.

Fresh produce can get a bit pricey when it's out of season in someone's particular area, but frozen is just as good and often less expensive.

Watching for sales is the ticket. Unless I'm splurging and getting boneless chicken breasts, I never pay more than 59cents/pound for chicken parts........and generally even lower than that. For less than $20 dollars I can fix at least 10 dinners for my family of 3.
