There's no doubt that Schwarzenegger really wimped out to score points with voters who are economically conservative but left wing on everything else. I don't think that he really believes in the bill that he signed, but took the advice of his skittish staff. If I'm not mistaken, his Chief of Staff is a liberal Democrat.

He would have signed it too. Which begs the question: "Why do Conservatives vote for liberal Republicans when they do all the worst things that liberal Democrats do?"

Plus, if Angelides had signed this bill, people would have been outraged and a conservative GOP might have been able to channel that outrage toward political gains. Now that a "Republican" has done the honors, people who disagree with the homo-ification of society effectively have no place to turn.
