Democrats have big plans if they take over in Congress
Lexington Herald Leader ^ | Sept. 2, 2006 | Margaret Talev

If Democrats win one or both houses of Congress in November's elections, as polls suggest is increasingly likely, President Bush's Washington will change dramatically.

Democrats will press to get out of Iraq. They'll mount investigations into the Bush administration's record that could rival those of Presidents Nixon in Watergate and Clinton in the Monica Lewinsky affair. They'll push a boatload of social-welfare legislation, such as raising the minimum wage, that reflects their pent-up priorities, while blocking the Republican agenda on social issues such as gay marriage, abortion and religion.

Those are some of the top plans that Democrats would pursue if they won power, according to interviews with Democratic lawmakers, strategists, staff aides and lobbyists. The tone and temper of the Democrats were reflected well by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on the House Government Reform Committee, in a conference call in late August. He'll become the panel's chairman if Democrats take the House.

Call me a doomsayer but if things don't take a dramatic turn in our favor shortly, we'll be looking at two years of Democratic rule.
The tax cuts seem to be having no discernable effect on the average family, the news from overseas is pretty gloomy as portrayed by the major news outlets, and the recent in-fighting amongst Republicans bodes poorly for the upcoming mid-terms.
If the status quo doesn't change shortly, we are in major doo-doo.

By the time the socialism rots US from the inside out it will be all but impossible to climb out of....socialism is insidious.

Exactly. Socialism/Communism works somewhat, until it runs out of other people's money, then it always collapses. It's usually accompanied by the deaths of millions of it's citizens along the way.

If the Republicans lose I'm not going to
sit around and play the blame game there is no reason for this to happen.
No matter what we must keep the Republicans and or conservatives in.

Perfect opportunity to throw the filibuster right back into their faces.

This assumes that the Republicans have spines. Is there any evidence of this?

Agreed. But I will hold my nose and vote for them anyway. There is no viable excuse to "punish" the republicans and give this country to the communists.

Not calling all democrats "communists", just those who hold elective office. And to me, "communist" is a cuss word.

What else?

The streets will be safer because we won't have guns.....
Everybody will have medical insurance...
Abortions will be free to the poor....
Gays will finally be given the rights they deserve...
We can take the evil oil company profits and put them toward better uses...
Kyoto, here we come..
We won't change the constitution, but we can finally reign in those crazy Christians...
Oh, and Bush will be allowed to serve his jail term on his ranch.

"Is there any evidence of this?"

Well, no, but that don't prove nuthin', they've always been in a groveling position and never had use for a spine.

Republicans and conservatives aren't necessarily the same thing.

George Bush endorses and campaigns for "Republicans" Arlen Specter, Joe Schwarz and Lincoln Chaffee over more conservative opposition. George Bush is a much stronger Republican than he is a conservative. Unfortunately, many Republicans have become "Democratic Lite."

Today's Republicans = Pro Big Government, Pro Spending, Anti Free Speech, Pro illegal immigration, Pro Government Corruption

Can't wait to see what tomorrow's Republicans look like.

Well let's see, we can have a congress that you don't agree with everything they do, or we can have one who you don't agree with anything they do. Think about it. I could not disagree with you more.
