Democrats have big plans if they take over in Congress
Lexington Herald Leader ^ | Sept. 2, 2006 | Margaret Talev

If Democrats win one or both houses of Congress in November's elections, as polls suggest is increasingly likely, President Bush's Washington will change dramatically.

Democrats will press to get out of Iraq. They'll mount investigations into the Bush administration's record that could rival those of Presidents Nixon in Watergate and Clinton in the Monica Lewinsky affair. They'll push a boatload of social-welfare legislation, such as raising the minimum wage, that reflects their pent-up priorities, while blocking the Republican agenda on social issues such as gay marriage, abortion and religion.

Those are some of the top plans that Democrats would pursue if they won power, according to interviews with Democratic lawmakers, strategists, staff aides and lobbyists. The tone and temper of the Democrats were reflected well by Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., the ranking Democrat on the House Government Reform Committee, in a conference call in late August. He'll become the panel's chairman if Democrats take the House.

These guys are overlooking a democrat controlled congress.

They know who the real enemy is.

The Dems might win. Personally, I'd like to see them do their worst.

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

If the Democrats take over, Bush and Republican congressmen have no one to blame except for themselves. The only reason they are in this predicament is because they blew the federal budget and insist on shoving illegal immigration down our throats. If the Democrats take over, hopefully they will spend their time time punishing Bush and not the American people.

Finally a voice of reason which I happen to agree with. I'm not dour in thinking conservatives are toast because I don't believe it. We are the silent majority that nobody cares to poll so the MSM can shove their numbers, they don't equate to Jack Sh@t!

If you believe poll numbers right now, then give Chris Matthews a big sloppy kiss right on his ass!

This must be the statement furthest removed from reality in recent history, not even getting into why you would like to Dems to win and "punish Bush" -- I guess you would have preferred that he not start the War on Terror and let the terroists take over the US.

Thats the spirit..teach those republicans a lesson by letting the democrats take over...ya....that will do it just right.

They do learn. After President Bush 41 raised taxes and signed gun control and then went on to lose his reelection bid, Republicans learned that raising taxes and gun control aren't winning items for them.

If Republicans take real steps to demonstrably secure our borders, I'll vote for them, if not, instead of a broken glass Republican, I may become a "History Channel" Republican, too busy watching the History channel on election night to vote.

Perfect opportunity to throw the filibuster right back into their faces.

Yup!!! and lots of em. Be totally uncooperative, threaten fillibusters constantly, deny their judges a hearing, clog up committees. A legal kind of extortion would be the rule.

Yep. They can't explain what they're for, but it's mostly: health care, health care, health care, creeping socialism, health care, health care, control of the courts, regulation of everything under the sun, further attacks on the first amendment, creeping socialism, health care...

"Sorry, I don't disagree with you that the contract with America is dead and gone!"

The Contract with America called for:

- A balanced budget
- Line item veto
- Anti-crine package
- Elimination of the "marriage tax" and "American Dream Accounts" to provide middle class tax relief
- Tort reform including "loser pays" laws and limits on punitive damages
- The Job Creation Act
- An amendment limiting congressional terms

WANT TO TELL ME WHICH PARTS ARE NOT 'DEAD AND GONE?"

Hate to say it but if the DUrats take over, this country is in deep crap

You've got that right. And it will start with the inaugural address - count on a list of social programs that will be as long as your arm, and include the taking away of your children through mandatory pre-school starting at age 2 or 3. The icing on the cake will be that a Muslim will give the 'religious' benediction as part of the inauguration. Life in the U.S. as we have known it will be forever over.

If the GOP loses in November it will have no one to blame but itself. The party abandoned the principles laid out in the "Contract with America" long ago.

And when you are laying there in your socialized medicine waiting line for a doctor to see you about your cancer, you can say with your last breath... damn I'm glad I punished those Republicans.

They won't impeach Bush that would just get them Cheney.

What they will do is import more Mexicans than are in Mexico and make them citizens so your vote will no longer count for much. That is Democrats can't lose.

Then they will appease all those Muslims and let them in the country. If one of them kills you.. they's just say you had it coming .. and they would be right. Besides your dying of cancer anyway.

The only way to fix a goverment run Social Security is a goverment run health system that sees to it YOU DIE EARLY.

But hell the damned Republicans have it coming. You haven't figured it out yet. When the Republicans have it coming, you're the one that gets killed.

God! I hope you are right! I for one, will be first in line to continue to cast my vote for Republicans! The alternative is just something I will not be able to handle.

While the Republicans in power have failed to keep a conservative mandate, there's not one single democrat that deserves to be in power. Not one!

"This should motivate all Republicans, conservatives and sensible independents/moderates, to get out and vote for the Republican candidates, to keep the Dems from taking power."

Sadly, I am forced to agree. Things are just too dangerous to put the Evil Party in charge. Gonna have to hold my nose and pull the lever for the Stupid Party one more time.
