If a Republican knows he has your vote no matter what because of the R after his name, why would he care what you think? Worth repeating. If we had rolled over for Harriet Miers as the "don't worry your pretty little heads about the GOP's decisions, bend over and take it" crowd would have had us do, we would never have gotten Scalia. We are living in strange times, where the GOP favors a Democrat over a Republican (Lieberman) and favors a RINO over a real Conservative (Chafee over Laffey). And we're supposed to meekly trot into the polling place and vote straight party line? I ask you-- what WILL wake up the GOP? I'm willing to entertain other ideas than withholding my vote.

Thank you. I've saying the same thing for the last 2 years and getting beat up for it here.
RINOs are liberals who only share our party label, not our worldview. They do more harm than good.
The other thing is, the world will not end if the Dems take the lead (which I don't think they will despite some losses on our side). If we couldn't get everything that we wanted with a 5 seat majority (senate) and larger in the House, then why would the dems be able to get everything -- or anything -- that they want?
Are the apologists here are worried that the RINOs will side with the Dems, that makes our case about the RINOs being the problem.
What ever passes in Congress still must get past Bush. Are the apologists here worried that Bush won't veto the garbage, then again they make our case that Bush is no conservative.
And at least we will know what we are dealing with and have two years to get a good conservative candidate for the WH and retake the House and/or the senate.
Or whatever else we need to do to prepare for the future.

We (sic) he alive today he would probably call the stay-at-home-weenies petulant little children. Were he alive today, he'd more likely be leading the revolution while at the same time kicking our asses for allowing our Republic to degenerate into what it has become.

Perhaps a name change is in order.
Here in PA we were are the way to booting Specter but the entire GOP party structure including so called conservatives Santorum and Bush worked to crush the real conservative.

It is a conundrum, isn't it? But what's the solution? It isn't voting for a Dem or a libertarian/independent [except in very special circumstances]. The solution isn't not voting, either. What is it, then?
The solution is persuading the American public to agree with you on whatever issue is closest to your heart. Right now, the American public is very evenly divided between liberals and conservatives. So, frustrating as it may be, compromises will be made on most important issues. In politics, half a loaf is better than none.
Liberals were able to maintain power from the 30s to the 90s by maintaining the discipline to hold their nose and vote for the candidate that would keep them in the majority...a lesson conservatives would do well to learn.

I have a question for all those conservatives who are dissatisfied with the Republican Party: what are you doing. When was the last time you were involved with a campaign either primary or general election? Did you ever volunteer? Did you ever consider becoming a committee man or woman? How much money did you contribute to genuine conservatives running in primaries? Or is the extent of your involvement sitting at the computer posting pictures of Ann Coulter and Catherine Zeta Jones.
When more conservatives can echo the Founding Fathers' pledge of their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honors will we get our country back. Get off your butt. Do something.

Liberals were able to maintain power from the 30s to the 90s by maintaining the discipline to hold their nose and vote for the candidate that would keep them in the majority. You are absolutely wrong about that.
The Dems are a coalition of varying interests. They can all co-exist with each other. The Dems truly have a big tent consisting of many groups who agree on most things even though they rank their own cause higher than the rest. They vie for priority, but any of the leftists that come out on top will not oppose any of the other constituencies. When their issues come to the fore, he will support it. The pro gay rights candidate will not be opposed to animal rights legislation or more taxes or grabbing guns, etc. The pro abortionist will likewise support the other groups.
OTOH, the GOP expects pro life people to support a pro choice candidate. They expect a pro gun person to vote for a gun grabber. In trying to be all things to all people the GOP has its 'Big Tent' inhabitants at odds over competing ideals.

Both parties agree on too much. If Bush wouldn't veto any bad bills from a Dem congress, at least we know what kind of man he really is. Well, some of us do, but it will be more apparent for the bots.
