"Authorities clear suspicious bag found at JFK parking lot"
September 29, 2006, 2:18 AM EDT

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "NEW YORK -- Five hours after getting reports of a suspicious bag at a John F. Kennedy International Airport parking lot, investigators determined the unattended package was not a threat and authorities began allowing vehicular traffic back to the area early Friday morning.

The bag did contain a powdery substance, but a hazmat team deemed it non-hazardous, said Pasquale DiFulco, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which runs the airport. "

"Mexico Opposed to U.S. Border Fence"
Sep 28th - 8:40pm

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico warned Thursday that the U.S. proposal to build miles of border fence will damage relations between the two countries.

The Foreign Relations Department said it was "deeply worried" about the proposal, which is working its way through the Senate, adding it will "increase tension in border communities."

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks during a news conference held along the U.S.-Mexico border fence near the San Ysidro Port of Entry in San Diego, June 21, 2006. In a Republican-sponsored advertisement being distributed by telephone, Schwarzenegger is portrayed as tough and resolute on illegal immigration, an issue with potent appeal among Republican conservatives. In events this week, Schwarzenegger conspicuously advertised his moderate Republican credentials, signing Democratic bills to combat global warming and withdraw state investments from companies in war-torn Sudan. "These measures will harm the bilateral relationship. They are against the spirit of co-operation that is needed to guarantee security on the common border," the department said in a statement.

The House of Representatives and Senate are maneuvering to speed construction of a 700-mile fence along the United States' southern border aimed at keeping migrants and criminals from entering the country illegally."
