ARTICLE SNIPPET: "LAKELAND – A Polk County sheriff’s deputy was killed and another shot in the leg about 12:30 p.m. today after they pursued a motorist who ran away from a traffic stop.
Deputy Vernon Matthew "Matt" Williams and his K-9 were shot to death, officials said. Deputy Doug Speirs was shot in the leg but has been treated and released from Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
When he was first stopped by the deputy for speeding, the suspect identified himself as Eswardo O. Ramclaim, 32, of Miami, but Polk authorities don’t believe that's his real name. As the search continued this evening, Polk Sheriff Grady Judd said officers hoped to take him alive but "we are prepared for a gunfight if he wants a gunfight."
A massive manhunt is under way for the suspect, described as a black man with a Jamaican accent with dreadlocks wearing a white or light colored shirt and dark pants."
