Weekly Piracy Report
12-18 September 2006
The following is a summary of the daily reports broadcast by the IMB's Piracy Reporting Centre to ships in Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Ocean Regions on the SafetyNET service of Inmarsat-C from 12 to 18 September 2006.
ALERT
Chittagong anchorage, Bangladesh
Thirty one incidents have been reported since 28.01.2006. Pirates are targeting ships preparing to anchor. Ships are advised to take extra precautions.

Recently reported incidents
17.09.2006 at 0330 LT at Chittagong anchorage 'c', Bangladesh.
Eight armed robbers approached a container ship. Alert crew mustered and sounded the whistle. Upon seeing crew alertness robbers aborted attempted boarding.
16.09.2006 at 2030 LT at Pelintung wharf, Dumai, Indonesia.
Two robbers armed with large knives boarded a chemical tanker at berth. They assaulted master and stole large amount of cash and escaped. Master sustained serious injuries and needed hospital treatment.
16.09.2006 at 0200 LT in posn: 22:16.94N - 091:43.08E, Chittagong
Anchorage 'a', Bangladesh. Four robbers in a small motorboat approached a bulk carrier at stern during cargo operations. Three robbers jumped off the boat and clung themselves down the rudder/propeller while the boat moved away. Alert crew mustered and master turned the propeller. Robbers jumped off from the rudder post and were picked by their boat. Master called port control but received no response.
14.09.2006 at 2230 UTC in posn: 08:29.8N - 013:12.50W, 4nm north of Queen Elizabeth II berth 4, Freetown, Sierra Leone.
Two robbers armed with knives in a boat boarded a tug at stern while at anchor. They attempted to steal the ship's rescue boat outboard engine but were repelled by ship's crew. Robbers managed to cut the battery power cable but escaped empty handed. Port authority informed.
