(KDKA) PITTSBURGH The man next in line to replace Mayor Bob O’Connor will be sworn in tonight.

At 10:30pm, City Council President Luke Ravenstahl will officially become the next mayor of Pittsburgh.

At 26 years old, Ravenstahl will be the youngest mayor in the city’s history.

Earlier today, he told reporters he was ready.

“My experience and my actions on council here over the last two-and-a-half years,” Ravenstahl cited. “I’ll let the people decide that. That is an issue that many will raise.

“I’m here. I’ve been the president, I have been elected by my district, I have been elected by my colleagues,” Ravenstahl added. “I’m more than confident that if and when called upon, I’m here to serve the residents of the city and that’s the way I have approached my job from day one. I will continue to do so if I’m called upon to be the mayor.”

This is a joke.

No one even knows when the replacement special election for mayor will occur.

The new charter language is ambiguous.

Should it be next May, next November, or November 2009?

There is no right answer.

What a bleeping joke.

Whoever wrote the charter was a moron.

Interesting. Now both the county manager for Allegheny County, and the mayor of Pittsburgh are young guys.

You are correct - he died in 1988, while in office. Mrs. Fury was a cousin of Richard Caliguiri, I understand he was well generally well-liked.

I had forgotten -- Caliguiri pulled a Lieberman -- lost the Democratic Primary but then ran as an Independent -- dang, I want to say he ran as a write-in now -- but then rejoined the Democrats after the election.
