Nelson Locks Up Law Enforcement Support

June 26, 2006

ST. PETERSBURG -- Culminating with support from the 22,000 member-strong Florida Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson's bid for re-election landed the endorsements last week from two of the state's major law enforcement organizations.

On Friday, the FOP unanimously gave their support to Nelson during its annual convention in St. Petersburg. Earlier in the week, the campaign received an endorsement from the Florida Police Benevolent Association and its more than 32,000 law enforcement and corrections officers.

The two law enforcement organizations now join a number of major groups that have announced their early support for Nelson, including the Florida Professional Firefighters Association, League of Conservation Voters, Sierra Club, Florida AFL-CIO and Florida Consumer Action Network.

"I'm humbled to have the support of law enforcement," said Nelson. "These are the men and women who risk their lives everyday to keep us safe."

During his first term in the U.S. Senate, Nelson has been a strong advocate for increasing Homeland Security spending in Florida and making sure federal grant programs that provide state and local law enforcement with personnel, training and equipment are adequately funded. Recently, Nelson led a successful effort in the Senate to provide $30 million in grants over three years to help Florida and other states track and monitor convicted sex offenders with satellite technology.

As a Law Enforcement Officer myself, I am very distrubed by this VERY misleading "news" -- getting the support of a LAW ENFORCEMENT UNION is a FAR CRY from getting the support of LAW ENFORCEMENT.. I am glad I work for a NON-union agency, as it is stuff that this that really shows who the PBA really works for !

FWIW, I am still leaning towards McBride but I am a little disturbed by his position on immigration, and it just might swing me... I wish the KH campaign did a better job.

A union endorsing a DemocRAT! So what else is new? This is just an endorsement from the kneecap busters. The rank and file law enforcement officers more than likely feel differently. That's the number one problem I have with unions. They only endorse socialists or communists and use the members' dues to do it.

It's really not surprising. That was the Florida police establishment that failed to discover and apprehend Atta and his merry band of terrorists.

Sure they'd sell out America again.

This is the typical ploy of the Dems. They claim they have police support, firefighter support, the support of nurses, etc, when what they have is policemen's union, firefighters' union, and nurses' union support. It's typical Democrat crock.

The two law enforcement organizations now join a number of major groups that have announced their early support for Nelson, including.....Sierra Club....

THAT ices it for me right there. IF I were in FLA, the LAST person I would vote for will be the one with the sierra club endorsement.

I would personally cut down a tree if they were in it, and I wouldn't pi$$ on any of them if they were on fire....

She'll easily beat the three chumps running against her in the primary and she'll give Nelson a run for his money. I have no hard feelings or regrets if she loses to Nelson. She threw her hat in the ring like a champ, put her name, money, and career on the line and had the titanium backbone to run, unlike the other establishment Republicans who were too scared to run but are stabbing her in the back.

So you can bash her all you want, it really doesn't affect those who support and will vote for her.

bad news? I didn't post it because I thought it was bad news, I posted it because it is ridiculous to claim support of "law enforcemet" by getting the PBA (union) endorsement... hence the BARF ALERT...
