Drunken driver crashes car, blames bartender
By MELISSA BUSCH
Bucks County Courier Times
Middletown's Timothy Collins snitched on himself.
Collins, who had been drinking, called police after he drove his car into his garage door on April 14.
Collins pleaded guilty in Bucks County court Thursday to driving under the influence, but blamed the incident on an Old Falls Road bar in Levittown.
Collins, 34, said he was forced to drive drunk after a bartender at the bar refused to call him a cab.
The bar left him with no choice but to hop in the car for the approximately 1-mile drive home. When police answered his call and learned he had driven drunk, he was arrested.
Defense attorney David Knight said Collins called police so there was a report of the incident and to tell them that the bar refused to call him a cab. Knight tried to have the case thrown out.
The only evidence they had against him was himself, Knight said. The only evidence of a crime was his statement to police. I tried to get his statement out. That was rejected by the court.
This was Collins' third DUI offense.
Bucks County Judge Albert Cepparulo sentenced him to 90 days to 23 months in the Bucks County prison. He had to turn in his driver's license Thursday though he does not report to the prison until Sept. 15.
Collins also must pay a $1,500 fine plus court costs.

Was the guy drunk? Or just stupid?
And the story is written by Bush! (well, MELISSA BUSCH).
Bush's fault. /s
I suspect those are not mutually exclusive qualities in this case.
"This was Collins' third DUI offense."
I think we're on to why he's doing a "desperate measures" (some might say stupid) defense.
Both. Also lazy. Who takes a cab for one mile, unless they are carrying things or in a huge hurry to make an appointment?
It was all George Bush's fault.
These people do not live in the real world, ala their heroes, the leaders of the modern American democrat party.
2 be sure. This is the kind of thing that's pretty hard to live down with anyone who even remotely knows you.
There would not have been a third if he hadn't called it in himself. He made it onto his own property without incident.

funny story, sure enough, but he's off the road for AT LEAST 90 days.....maybe he'll do more stupid stuff during the 90 days and wind up serving nearly 2 years.
Whats worse is some bottom feeder lawyer will take the case.
Another barfly who was over-served.
ANd to think, the whole mess could have been avoided by the simple phrase
"OK, You are a cab."
I don't believe it!
