PRIME Minister John Howard today said he had no need to apologise for telling Muslims they needed to embrace Australian values.
Mr Howard sparked controversy yesterday by saying on talk-back radio that a small group of Muslim migrants had refused to accept their adopted country's values and had not learned English.
His comments sparked fury among some Muslim leaders who say they were offended.
But Mr Howard today stood by his comments.
"I don't apologise," he told reporters.
"I think they are missing the point and the point is that I don't care, and the Australian people don't care, where people come from.
"There's a small section of the Islamic population which is unwilling to integrate and I have said generally all migrants ... they have to integrate."
Can you imagine the outrage that would erupt from the left if George W. Bush dared to say such things in the states ?
Send your PM over here to teach our leaders.
Howard doesn't give a stuff what the left thinks. Never has. Never will.
LOL! Pretty close!
It is too short a trip to drive.
Why should the Muslim leaders be offended. They should be encouraging their followers to assimilate.
Why did they come to Australia if they did not find the culture inviting.
Why do the Muslims go to a country and expect the pre-existing culture to change to accommodate their customs.
They remind me of what used to be the Ugly American.
As where American travelers used to visit foreign countries and expect to have the same accommodations as they would find in the United States and to expect everyone there to speak English.
Outstanding!!
Heck, in the USA we still can't get the dims and their traitorous leaders to embrace American values or integrate into the reality of the sane.
Can we draft PM Howard for 2008?
Good on him.
Nah. He's got the job for as long as we wants it down here...
He is a great man!!!!
Could ya'll spare him in the States for a bit. Seems our cowboy is gettin shy.
No that's not it. GWB is just taking the disney movie character Thumpers momma a little too cerially.~~ "If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all"~~
Way to go Howard!!!!!!! Wish you were here in America!!!!
The visiting priest we had this past Sunday is actually a teacher at a Houston Catholic high school--a Dominican. He had to take the first 15 minutes of his homily to talk again (he was visiting 3 weeks ago with a powerful homily on Islam) a little about Islam and to warn us that if Europe goes Islam, America will cease to exist. He stressed that God can work miracles through prayer and cited a couple examples from the past. He begged all to pray. There is rarely any clapping in that church, but he received an ovation, and then continued on with his homily for the day's Gospel. I wish all would sound like him, especially when he said, "Phooey on political correctness!!" :)
Sounds like you've got a candidate for Pope on your hands!
THANK YOU AUSTRALIA!
I love that guy.
Sounds like the hispanic groups in the US....
I long for the day that President Bush finds the cajones to say this. Instead, we get spanish as our unnoffical second language and muslims walking around looking like Halloween trick-or-treaters in their medieval gettup; and we are supposed to bow to it because America is "multicultural".
Here in the U.S. our government covers up for the terrorists. How many times must Islamic maniacs who slaughter Americans on our streets perform their hateful acts of barbarism against us before it's called what it is? I'm referring to the two incidents where muslomaniacs used SUVs to run down Americans. Also the islamofacist who shot six Jewish women a few weeks ago, and the two Islamofacist snipers who murdered umpteen Americans several years ago. None of this was terrorism, you see, because in our country our ball-less leader ARE afraid to call it like it is.
If a muslim is offended, it means your doing something right.
Clone him, teach him to speak without the accent and ship him over here.
good.
