I heard that Laffee did a good job in Cranston - they were bankrupt befor he took over. However, RI is a blue state. Unfortunate since it is at least 60% Catholic.

I can think of maybe three off the top of my head: Tancredo (co), Flake (az), McClintock (ca). Sadly most must sell their soul early in political career to gain party support (rep or dem.) As you stated not many, but refreshing when one is found.

That goofy expression was one of the things during their debate that made Laffey seems so GOOD!!! He was a serious, NORMAL looking person and Chaffee looks Freaking Goofy!!

Chaffee did not vote for Alito, I believe. And if the senate majority were held by only one republican vote, he would pull a Jeffords and switch parties just to screw the GOP.

I've not seen replays of the debates - I think they've had two of 'em.
But from I've read on the 'Net, it sounded like Laffey did very well.
To: Suzy Quzy
Sorry I missed that debate. In Chaffee's case, looks are not only skin deep.

Clean the Party. Purge the RINOs I agree .. it's just that we can't do it all at once
We need to pick our battles carefully

It also shows the writers ignorance or blatant disregard for Chaffee's record. Also for him/her to think that all readers would buy such a line shows both ignorance and arrogance.

Newport County (58 percent to 25 percent), in the Providence Suburbs (56 percent to 33 percent), Blackstone Valley (49 percent to 32 percent), Washington County (48 percent to 39 percent), and Western Rhode Island (42 percent to 37).That's a lot of area for the size of Rhode Island, isn't it? Chafee needs his ass handed to him!

Chafee will pull a Lieberman, and run as an independant just to screw the party.
Chafee would probably pull more dimwit votes than Republican. What Republican would ever vote for him if they had any other choice?

Laffey has called for Rumsfield to resign, but from the right, not from the left. That could be what they are talking about. Chafee responded that Sec of Defense is Bush's business and he keeps whomever he wants there.

I would view this as a positive, considering what elitist career politicians have done to the country. Why not try real citizen legislators again?I agree. Here in Colorado we decided to send a veterinarian, Wayne Allard, to congress in 1998, and he's proven to be a staunch conservative and excellent senator.
