NORFOLK, Va. Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is endorsing U-S Senator George Allen's re-election bid.
Giuliani joined Allen today for a briefing on port security in Norfolk and a private fundraising luncheon in Virginia Beach. It is the second time in two weeks that Allen has appeared with a possible rival for the 2008 G-O-P presidential nomination.
Giuliani is best known nationally for his leadership following the terrorist attacks on New York City five years ago. He has been traveling around the nation speaking on behalf of Republican candidates.
Allen brought the popular former mayor with him to Hampton Roads as he tries to recover from the fallout from his remarks to a campaign volunteer for Democratic challenger Jim Webb.
Giuliani said today that he could think of about 100 reasons why he supports Allen's re-election. Foremost, he said, was that the senator -- quote -- "understands what's at stake in the war against terrorism."
U-S Senator John McCain of Arizona joined Allen in Norfolk earlier this month to help announce a "Veterans for Allen" coalition.
Prepare for the "Allen is an honorable man and he should immediately renounce Rudy's endorsement" cries.
Guiliani is winning himself some brownie points.
The "Macaca" story got a whole lot more media attention than Webb's anti-semitic gaff.
Webb's anti-semitic gaff? What did the old boy say?
Then if they do that they are not thinking about Allen but are thinking of their own prejudices. Allen is slipping in the polls right now. He needs a boost. Allen is going to win his Senate Seat but not by a huge margin. But he will win. Giuliani can only help Allen.
Giuliani knows how important it is that Allen keep his Senate Seat. Giuliani will do all he can to help him.
He ran an advertisement portraying his Jewish primary opponent with a hook nose.
I must have missed that.
Oh well, Mr. Webb's going to lose anyway.
And here is the thread:

Guiliani is leading - that's what the man does.
Two weeks ago I went to a leadership conference in Greenville SC, Rudy was a guest speaker - and he was simply awesome. He spoke to the audience of about 7,500 about leadership in the context of making decisions and then ensuring everyone understood the reasoning behind those decisions.
Anyway I will keep this short.
Rudy is a leader - I know there are a lot in the republican party who think he's a liberal - he is not - no friggen way.
I think the run up to 08' is going to be fantastic - if Rudy wins our nomination - I will work my tail off for him - if someone else wins - I will work for that person.
I Like RUDY - a lot....
He would carry South Carolina in a NY minute if the election were today.
We will see tomorrow.
I will definitely vote for Rudy if he runs. But whomever wins the primary will get my vote too for president.
I'm actually looking forward to 2008. It should be alot of fun.
It's also important to point out that Webb's anti-semitic flyer referred to Miller as the "Antichrist of Outsourcing."
Didn't know that. That just proves that the hook nose portrayal wasn't just an oversight.
Precisely.
Webb's book is FULL of veiled references to white supremacy.
Rudy has been going all over the country enthusiastically
campaigning for Republicans.
He says over and over that it is imperative that Republicans maintain control of the House and Senate.
Rudy was in Minnesota campaigning for Mark Kennedy Aug 29. There is a review of his speech here- http://race42008.com/2006/08/30/rudy-raises-money-for-mark-kennedy-gives-2008-preview/
Some highlights :
" Rudy always speaks in terms of what it means to be a Republican.
" He reinforces our core beliefs and our strengths as a political party.
He talks with pride about what it means to be a Republican, and draws sharp contrasts between our party and our opponents."
"Rudy spoke of a clear dividing line between Republicans and Democrats,
and what the consequences of losing in November will mean for the conservative agenda."
" Hizzoner stressed that maintaining a Republican majority would mean the difference between staying on the offense against terrorism,
or going on defense and waiting for our country to be attacked."
"But rest assured, Rudy is as far to the right on judges as anyone in the American Conservative Movement. Imagine a far more eloquent George W. Bush on the issue."
" The money quote:
I dont understand how you cannot be for strict constructionist judges (emphasis Rudys)."
"Rudy spoke of his time as a federal prosecutor and how he knows from experience the importance of this issue.
He spoke glowingly of Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Sam Alito
(I believe he mentioned something to the effect of You have to be happy with the Presidents choices of Roberts and Alito [emphasis Rudys]).
He ended this discussion by stressing that law is to be made by legislatures,
not judges who base their opinions on how they happen to feel that day."
Next he discussed Taxes, and underscored how Republicans understand that cutting taxes and decreasing regulation lead to more jobs and a stronger economy. Rudy stressed that revenues have increased since the Bush tax cuts, not decreased.
Excellent Post. You need to post this on every Giuliani thread. For some reason the Giuliani haters think Giuliani will appoint "baby killer" "gun grabber" "gay lover" (to quote a few of their phrases) judges! YEESH!
" For some reason the Giuliani haters..."
Most of the Giuliani haters are similar to the Bush haters-it's impossible to have any type of civil discourse with them.
They resort to ad hominem attacks and childish mischaracterizations.
I did have one conversation a few weeks ago with an anti Giuliani, Allen supporter that started out poorly and ended with a web handshake and mutual pledge to support the Republican candidate , whether it be Allen or Giuliani.
Which is a rarity-usually they vow to vote Democrat or stay home and sulk.
Here are links to two first hand reports of Giuliani's visit to South Carolina-he was well received and seems to have a good deal of support in the South.
