New Orleans officials head to New York to pitch city

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — With the first anniversary of Hurricane Katrina behind him and the task of rebuilding New Orleans' shattered economy just beginning, Mayor Ray Nagin will lead a two-day pitch to New York's investment community designed to bring much-needed business to the storm-devastated city.

The delegation of business and public sector leaders will spend Friday and Saturday at a theater in lower west side Manhattan, touting city and federal tax breaks for investment, encouraging filmmakers to return to the city and seeking commercial sponsors for next year's Mardi Gras, an idea that didn't take off in 2006 as the city struggled through a scaled-back Carnival season.

With images of the devastation dominating national news media this week, New Orleans is struggling to market itself.

According to the state Labor Department, the metropolitan area had 173,000 fewer non-storm related jobs in July 2006 than in July 2005.

Nagin's trip, dubbed the New Orleans Economic Development Tour, will begin in a city that experienced its own disaster nearly five years ago — the 911 terrorist attacks. Nagin, faced with questions from a CBS "60 Minutes" crew about the slow pace of New Orleans recovery, created a controversy when he quipped, "You guys in New York can't get a hole in the ground fixed, and it's five years later. So let's be fair."

Yeah, Nagin's latest bone-headed remarks about the WTC site being a "hole in the ground" should get these NOLA representatives far with New York City.

If Rudy was still mayor, he would tell them to go pound sand.

So he's trying it again? What a maroon! And why should any but the chocolate care what he wants for his chocolate city?

Is Nagin looking for hole-digging technology? He seems to be doing a good job of digging those for himself on his own.

Take the mayor to Ground Zero.

Then tell him to get on the first bus leaving NY.

When he complains about taking a bus back to New Orleans, explain to him if he didn't hate buses so much, maybe many of his citizens would have had to die.

His chocolate city is all bittersweet. This guy is a racist. A bigot. The main problem is that he is an ignorant racist bigot. He is dumb as dirt. Probably smart enough to weasel himself a nice little golden parachute retirement fund from all the money going to that rathole city.

Nagin's been taking political advice from Jesse "Hymietown" Jackson.

Man...if I were from NO and had any political clout, Nagin would have his mouth duct-taped shut and then be sent to his room and never let out. His "chocolate city" and "hole in the ground" comments shows that he was born with his foot in his mouth. In fact, I'm reasonably sure it was his great grandfather who, about 150 years ago, asked Mary Todd Lincoln:

"Other than that, what did you think of the play?"

Rich's plan for getting New Orleans on the road to recovery...

Step Number One: Make the stupid mayor shut up.

I mean, really, you have to love the timing in this.

He needs to go to Hershey, PA and sell his chocolate city crap. They could produce the NOLA Bar. All chocolate and full of nuts. When he dies they will have to screw this crooked a-wipe into the ground.

You better rush out and patent that! The NOLA bar "All Chocolate and Full Of Nuts" could be sold like any other fundraiser chocolate! I'd love to see Noggin with a dadgum cigarette-girl getup out hawking the things in the heat, trying to keep 'em from melting like him.

Oh, Noggggg-gggggin, here comes your meltdown....

Yeah didn't Nagin just trash NYC totally and now he is heading there asking for help/handouts?!

They should send him packing saying they would not presume to tell him how to rebuilt his city since he obviously knows so much better than NYC's best minds.

democRATS have absolutely no shame.
