It is not the baby's fault that its parent's don't marry. Why on Earth would you use that word to describe the baby. Yes, we all know the technical definition. But you're using it to be cruel. TIMES ARE DIFFERENT, like it or not.

I think we can distinguish between casting criticism and casting stones. People love to quote "Let him that has no sin cast the first stone" but they forget that in practically the same breath, Jesus turned to the adulterous woman and said "Go and sin no more".

Too many people are so determined to be non-judgmental (and demand that others be non-judgmental) that they fail to have discernment. This story has plenty that discerning people could point to as object lessons for the consequences of bad decisions. For example, when people treat sex so cavalierly that they are still engaging in sex with someone that they recently "broke up with", the consequences can be a child born to parents who have no commitment to each other. Another consequence is that this student-athlete (apparently not exactly Dean's List material) will miss a season of her sport.

Yes, we are called to share the Gospel of Christ's Grace. Thank God for that Grace. But we are also called to be SALT and LIGHT in a depraved world, both of which have an impact on their environment. Salt preserves, it creates a thirst, and it burns wounds. Light illumnitates, and it also exposes things that would remain hidden in darkness.

Pfffft. I'm glad I'm not living in your world.

Unfortunately, we all appear to be living in his world.

Black illegitimacy rates are at or near 70% of all births. Hispanic rates are at about 40% and Whites are in the 20s and rising. Over a third of all births in the US are now illegitimate.

There was a reason for the stigma that was once attached to out of wedlock births.

I was not the one who originally used it. I used it to make a point - better to be a bastard than murdered - to point out the absurdity of calling the child that.

I happen to have a "bastard" child.

indeed. I don't feel the need to say anything about a baby outside of marriage, but I respect that they didn't take the easy, and immoral, way out and just abort him/her

Pathetic but not surprised to see something like that posted on FR these days.

I wonder how many FReepers born out of wedlock he offended.

"People made a list of the two thousand and six most beautiful people? How would it feel to be the last name on the list?"

Ah, bah-humbug! The person who graduates last in his class of med school is called, "Doctor."

Maybe Matt partied a little too much one night and mistook Bryn for Paris!

Brynn does not want to get married," Stan Cameron told the Ventura County Star. "She wants to finish school and let Matt do his thing and then figure it out."

Good for her! People were crazy back in the day when they graduated from college, figured it out and then had children. What were they thinking!

For the record, I'm not one to succumb to name-calling, but I'm offended by the "bastard" comments.

That said, I have a wonderful 20 year-old niece born out of wedlock and I dare anyone to comment on that to my brother's face.

Once again, I made very clear to separate the sins, yes, SINS, of the parent from the child. Is anyone debating that?

And if I hear you correctly you are saying that:
1. This child will never grow up and be called this name? Is there an age that it should stop being used? and
2. On top of the disadvantage of not having a 2 parent household, we should now strap the innocent with this moniker because his parents couldn't control themselves?

Again, can't wrap my head around this thing.

"Why, the prospect of God smiting their enemies makes the Old Testament Retributionists on FR feel much better. ;)"

I just have to wonder about someone who feels their enemy is a baby that hasn't been born yet. Amazing that so many presumably pro-life conservatives get satisfaction from calling a baby "bastard". Its a great selling point for the pro-life movement. Don't abort, have your baby, so we can call it names, and make it ashamed.

They joined the Church to judge and condemn those who aren't as holy as they perceive themselves to be. Interesting the similarities between Christianity and Islam in this - few other faiths seem to have much of a problem with attracting these types.

How does shaming them add any benefit to this situation?

Their particular situation? It probably doesn't help at all. But shame used to be very effective in keeping out of wedlock birth rates low.

She obviously figured out she stands a bigger payday having Matt Leinart's kid that trying to be a star in women's basketball.

Matt, be sure to get a paternity test. I doubt it's the first time you've heard that advice.

That night, they partied together at L.A. club Shag. "They seemed really into each other," said one witness. "He was very touchy-feely."

OMG. You can practically hear a porn movie soundtrack cueing up in the background when reading that paragraph. LOL
