The government wants to fight the Islamists one country at a time. That is understandable, and it's why they continue the little charade about ROP.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't be vigilant at home. The "nothing to see here" bit is going to result in a lot of people getting killed. Why the news media plays along is mind boggling.

I agree, one of the reasons behind the regular denial of the fact that Islamic terrorist activities are - well, Islamic terrorist activities - is that the US doesn't want to find itself facing too many enemies at once.

I think another fear is that naming them will give them some kind of cohesion and encourage domestics, such as the Black Muslims, to get active. SF, incidentally, was the scene of the famous Zebra Killings of the 1970's, where a group of Black Muslims established the killing of a white or Asian person as their rite of initiation. So this has been going on for awhile, and I think one thing that many authorities fear is that these groups would all revive and find common cause if it is made clear that Islam is the unifying factor in these attacks.

The media has sort of painted itself into a corner. The Feds insist that there is no such thing as a home grown ROP terrorist, so righteous citizens don't start popping Muslims on sight, for suspicion of planning an attack. At the same time, real home grown terroists, who ain't got the smarts God gave a goat, insist on going jihadi and running over young and old liberals in SUVs. (They only like doing this in places where they KNOW they won't get shot...) What's a liberal thinking news organization to do?
