The President is not in charge of the national sex life, and has nothing to do with gun control or the lack thereof.
I will always admire Rudy for his behavior after 911. This party can smear him if they please, but this is what I will remember.
I really don't see what that has to do with conservatism. Was it some measure of satisfaction, sure. If I was cynical I could also conclude that there was really no other choice politically.
For what it's worth, you can count on me NOT voting for Rudy or McCain. I have my limits on how low I go.
You must not have read the first 150 posts because there have been numerous posters claiming he's the second coming of Ronald Reagan.
As of right now if I'm faced with the choice of Rudy vs. Gore/Kerry/Hillary I'm afraid none of the above is currently leading.
Why so many more votes here for Giuliani than for McCain? Is McCain really more of a social or economic liberal than Giuliani? Or is it a personal thing? If the figures on a very conservative site like Free Republic are representative, then Giuliani will be the nominee, since McCain would probably be the strongest alternative.
You're right, and my guess Rudy will move to the right on some issues. I'm not much of a Rudy fan, but what's missing is a solid, viable, ELECTABLE conservative candidate. Unless one develops, I'll certainly vote for Rudy (or McCain) over Hillary.
IMO, the President is the moral leader of America. When a politico supports abortion on demand he's a liberal. Giuliani not only supports abortion on demand, he opposes any ban on partial birth abortion. Giuliani also wants more restrictive gun control measures and an assault weapons ban. Promoting special rights for homos and creating a sanctuary for illegals is also liberal positions that conservatives take into consideration when picking any candidate for political office.
"his phenomenal performance after 9/11 was much appreciated."""
I know he appeared on TV a lot and said uplifting things. What else did he do after 9/11 that was "phenomenal"? Anybody .... anybody ... ?"
I've wondered the exact same thing, and noticed that no one has come up with an answer to your question.
Rudy wrote that he believes a leader should "Under promise and out perform".
Name one Liberal who thinks that way.
I know he appeared on TV a lot and said uplifting things. What else did he do after 9/11 that was "phenomenal"? Anybody .... anybody ... ?"
Uh, he refused money from a Saudi prince...
Giuliani told that Arab sheik to stick his $10-million dollars up his arse. Remember? In the eyes of some FReepers, that makes Rudy a conservative. LOL
Which explains President Rodham's coming landslide.
Your perception of that bloc's importance may be affected by where you live... and so may mine.
Rudy has done nothing for the WOT except to tell Arafat to go pound sand.
He authorized the NYPD Hercules teams...kind of super SWAT counterterrorism teams.
Is that in Article II, or has there been an amendment that I don't know about?
He is far and away the better choice to most candidates on both sides.
Before Rudy in NYC things were so out of control that violent crime was just a routine happening and the citizens didn't even bother reporting most of it. Dirt, grime, insulting behavior, petrified mass transport riders, pandhandling and other petty crime was the norm. Politicians didn't even bother trying to clean it up it was so far gone. Then comes Rudy and you know the rest of the story. So, let me understand something. He is unacceptable because he has personal views that counter your own on some issues.
Somehow what Rudy did in New York says much more about the man than his views on a few social issues and social issues that he probably would not lobby to alter as there are many more important issues which he would attack head on.
I'll take Rudy any day over someone who feels that defeating gay marriage is the most important issue ever to come up.
Rudy doesn't have a chance in a presidential election. He might make a good attorney general. But he's not ready for prime time and never will be.
I too admired Giuliani for his compassion and his humanity following the 9-11 attacks. But the GOP can't afford to nominate a liberal to represent the party in 2008. Rudy at the top of the ticket would fracture the Republican Party.
