CBS News Unveils New Couric Web Ad Campaign
New York, August 30, 2006
(CBS) CBS News announced Wednesday a new internet-based advertising campaign to promote the premier of Katie Couric as the new anchorwoman of "The CBS Evening News". CBS News President Sean McManus made the following statement:
"We here at CBS News - which, if you haven't heard, is the new home of Katie Couric - want to reach out to former audience members who, in a bout of confusion, seem to now prefer highly questionable internet based news sources rather than the traditional trusted evening news broadcast. We would also like to recognize the dramatic weight loss and overall makeover made recently by Ms. Couric in preperation for her taking the anchor chair of 'The CBS Evening News'." (This fantastic change in appearance is documented on the web at this link.)
"At the same time, CBS wants to stress a continuity with the long proud history of the our News division: from from the ever-reassuring Walter Cronkite, to the go-getter Dan Rather, to the entertaining pairing of Dan with lounge singer Connie Chung, and back to the stoic solo Dan Rather, ruling the newsroom like an angry Texas Bull in an hot rodeo ring. This advertising campaign will also reassure our existing viewers that the CBS News standard of honesty will be upheld, no matter who is sitting in our hallowed anchor chair."
McManus finished with the following: "CBS will premier this new campain on FreeRepublic.com, as frankly, it's where we go to see what's really happening in the world before we "broaden the perspective" of the news using our vast and bias-free experience."
The web banner ad is as follows:
Considering all the hype, I think SeeBS is really worried about the Perky one. I don't recall all this fuss when Dandy Dan Blather took over for Windy Walter Crankcase.
*APPLAUSE* :-D
Ping to folks from the original thread.....
Katie Couric is CBS's Tom Cruise who hasnt met her Waterloo yet. CBS will be sorry.
That has GOT to be the animated GIF of the YEAR!
I salute you Sir! :)
Thanks for the compliment, but frankly, I'm a more than a little disturbed by how sexy I think Lenin looks in pearls and a black dress.....
I must say, ol' Vladimir Ilyich looks rather fetching in pearls. Qaty al-Khouriq, however, is more of a Stalinist.
The two of us could start some kind of really wierd Lenin fan club! :o)
Even that smiley picture is embarrassing.
As a woman I want gravitas, integrity, and a semblance of intelligence from my news reader. cutie catie has none of those requirements.
Katie & c.bs can kiss my hairy white rump.
Given the substantial bosom on the original, I wonder just how perky perky Katie is really? Hubba hubba
Disturbed you are.......!! HA!!
HA! Why stop there?! CBS needs to produce Katie paperdolls, where we can dress her in different outfits and hairdo's while watching the Evening Spews. They could also include balloon thoughts we could interchange with her teleprompter lines.
Seriously we should do an archive of walter cronkits bias.
We could peg him as the godfather of left wing anchor bias.
It is fitting such an untrustworthy anchor in introducing the latest generation of left wing anchors.
"...seem to now prefer highly questionable internet based news sources rather than the traditional trusted evening news broadcast."
Marie Antoinette wasn't this dense. First, Katie will "educate, enlighten," and whatever else she stated.
Now, this silly fop from some elitist attitude seems to think that the evening news even means something.
Talk about luddites. This man's news is simply passe.
I can only pray that nobody puts Lenin's head on THAT torso!
On the other hand, Lenin would be a marginal improvement over the Perky one.
