BRIDGEPORT, Conn. --A Fairfield lawyer has been charged with stabbing his neighbor to death after learning the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said.
Fairfield authorities said attorney Jonathon Edington leaped through 58-year-old Barry James' bedroom window Monday and stabbed him nearly a dozen times in the chest. Edington, 29, was arraigned on murder and burglary charges Tuesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. He was held on $1 million bond and is scheduled to return to court on Sept. 12.

Let's try a thought experiment.
Imagine an angry father breaking in and stabbing his neighbor a dozen times because he believed -- based on what evidence, we don't know -- that the neighbor molested his daughter.
Now imagine that the angry dad is a Muslim.
The tenor of this thread would be completely different.
According to post 137, his belief that the child was molested by the neighbor came from his wife.
Now if she said this out of some sick need for attention... or because she hated the neighbor... or because she wanted a convenient path to divorce, and knew that she was not going to get full custody in a fair trial...
Now is he "sane"? And if my conjectures are true, should he slaughter his wife next? Will he be justified yet again? (And what if I convince him that his wife did this, even though it isn't true? Now we're getting into some real good Hitchcock-ian plot lines!!!)
(It also amazes me that FReepers dive into anything the media serves up if the word "molester" is in the story. These 'journalists' are not exactly the most reliable source of factual information or unbiased writing styles. In case we've forgotten, they desperately need to sell advertising space to counter their drooping sales.)

If I was on the jury and there was any credible evidence at all that the deceased molested his daughter, I'd find him not guilty.

Perhaps if you will not allow conjecture on the post, you should consider that this man may not have killed his next door neighbor. After all, that too was part of the article which you desire to selectively dismiss.
The point of the comments of agreement with the notion that this fellow killed a pedophile is what most freepers are remarking about, in their own way.
I have sat on 2 juries regarding child molestation and considered only the facts in the case presented. We were meticulous to hold to the judges admonistions and instructions. But this is not a trial case, it is the court of public opinions. Lighten up a little.
Actually that's spot on. A child would see the resulting actions as their fault for telling. I.E. - "If I hadn't told Daddy wouldn't be in jail now for killing that guy who hurt me. I made my dad a murderer." Remember we are not talking about rational thoughts here, we are talking about what a child will believe and feel inside even if they don't express it outwardly.

I've read it again. I don't see any reason to change my reply. I think I got it the first time.
Are you suggesting that if I were a parent my wishful thinking would suddenly make manslaughter justifiable homicide, thus reversing centuries of legal precedent? Or do parents operate under a different set of laws than the population at large?
It's funny how serial molesters and rapists go free every day and it's a collective "oh well, that's the way system works."
But a guy kills someone who molests his two year old--oh, and that's going to ruin our justice system, the Constitution and our way of life.
I'll say it again--if the facts show the neighbor molested the lawyer's 2-year-old, he should walk. If the facts show otherwise, the lawyer should fry.
And will the republic stand if he goes free? Yeah, just like it's managing to hold on with depraved scum routinely and legally lawfully by-the-book let back out on the streets every day in this country. Scum who did their crimes with a lot less justification than this lawyer.
Yes. Safety first that's my motto. Clumsy people sometimes get injured. It is a shame but no one is truly to blame.
He probably knew better than ever how the guy might twist the system and get off 'easy'.
But his poor little girl :( No matter how you look at it, she suffered, and will continue to do so with daddy in jail.

I think not. I was not condoning what happened, anymore than I'd condone the abuse of the child. However, that seems to be what you think I meant. So in the interest of clarity I'll try to restate in a more succinct way.
Here is my point: If people had the confidence in the justice system, as they should be able to have, things like this wouldn't happen. It is the constant and repeated "catch and release" of criminals that makes a person, like this father, think they have no option but to take care of things themselves.

The sob molested his 2 year daughter and he stopped him from molesting any other young children.
Perhaps you would like your children molested if you have children or do not care if someone molested them.That is your business, different strokes for differenf folks, I suppose.
This man did care as would I.
I do know that if some sob had molested my child and I found out about it, they would be a dead sob so long as gun powder burns and the Good Lord gave me the strenght to pull the trigger.
Then what shall we say if the son of the person you kill has reason to believe the molestation charge is incorrect or he agrees with his legislators that child molestation is not a hanging crime, so he comes after you and manages to slip under your guard and kill you?
I'll agree that the laws about molestation are too weak in their penalty and that we spend far more money than we should paying people to avoid work and have babies, and not enough money on law enforcement and district attorneys. But I don't see good things coming out of this approach to crime.
I guess if he killed me it would just be bad for me.
At one time the law meant something. Most murderers and rapists were hung after being convicted and the law was a deterrent to most people.A life sentence was a life sentence. The convict died in prison.
Now the law is a joke. The criminals have no fear of the courts or the police. All the trial is is a contest between two lawyers. Someone can get a life sentence and be out before the transcripts of the trial are typed up. As for a death sentence, the convict has a good chance of dying of old age before it is carried out.
The Jesica Lunsfod case in Florida is a good case in point. If John Couey had been in prison where he should have been, he hads been released early on another conviction, he would not have been able to bury her alive.
I'm not saying it is right,I'm just saying what I think I would do. If I were put to the test, I can't say what I would do.
