Oh it's already down enough to be the beginning of a pre-election stunt according to the DUmpsters... Since oil is still $70 a barrel... Never mind that school just started and summer driving season ended

Santa Maria is almost purely a republican enclave. The Mayor and the entire city council are republicans. Abel Maldonado is from Santa Maria and got his start on the city council. One of the reasons we tried to separate into two counties is the 95% demoncrat voters in Santa Barbara.

yeah, I know the strawberry farmer...not a friend of mine.

But I didn't know the Santa Maria City Council were Republicans.

As far as separating goes, Santa Barbara wants you all to go to Bakersfield, heheheh.

They lump us into Thomas's legislative district, too, trying to give SLO and Santa Maria BOTH, the hint.

On another note:
I remember years ago, the Santa Maria Mayor {not the present one} saying,
"Santa Maria has a Mexican problem!" lol... A LOT of Mexicans laughed out loud, too, I take it. It didn't seem to adversely affect that guy. He got himself reelected at least once after that. With quite a bit of the "Mexican" vote, too!
Can't say that I recall his name. I remember more clearly little 'ol Morro Bay's political turnovers, boring as they may be.

If you want real [silly] Governmental body "action", go to Pismo! One of the gals (that I know) who videotapes the public access t.v. just loves it [not!] when she goes to down there. I never hardly watch the stuff. [spend way too much time on Free Republic, heheheh...]

Closer to SLO, the County Supervisor who got rebuffed by the rest of the Council on his proposed oak tree (gotta worship 'em) ordinance, is taking plays out of other enviro's playbook now.

Start a "committee". Get some token representatives from the farmer/landowner side, tilt things toward the prohibitive, "don't fool with Mother Nature", "let's put it all under glass" side, then wrangle as much out of the "opposition" as possible, before launching into PR campaigns (with the local lefty leaning prissy "reporters" available to lead around by the nose), and Wal-LAH!
Widely present the "findings" or agreements (that they've bullied the token ones into) as accomplished fact, to use as a crow-bar to FORCE legislation to "fix" the oh, so terrible whatever-it-is that just hAS to be "fixed"!

The people won't even know what hit them. Most of the time, even when it's over... That's sort-of how the political muggings go down, here in SLO County. The tree huggers are racking up the victories. When they can't win openly and honestly, the little local spin machines kick into high gear (and oh, how they WHINE!).

Not quite enough conservatives around to patiently, sensibly, successfully argue 'em down. The battles are endless...
They just keep coming in waves, like Russians on the Eastern Front...
Anyone that disagrees with their lefty Utopian "vision", is HITLER.
