This, too, shall pass.

Well, Allen did make a "not ready for prime time" impression.

He's NEVER been a front-runner for the 2008 nomination... this ain't new. What IS new... is that McCain is now down to 6.4%!

McCain supporters love Giuliani and Giuliani supporters are pretty fond of Romney Makes sense. RINO scum stick together.

(Qwerty ergo typo : I type, therefore I misspelll.)
My take from the various polls noted here is that we are likely to get a 2008 ticket even less attractive to social Conservatives - especially those with strong religious convictions - than even the current administration. I don't know if this portends a third party candidate, or just less enthusiasm at the polls, or something else.

The "Caca" wing of Redstate are likely trolls, its a nothing event and George Allen will win in the primaries.
The Rudy/McCain/Romney cheerleaders will have to get used to political facts, they will never be the nominee.

I never thought I'd see the day when Gingrich had a real shot of winning the nomination. But it looks like he might.
Too bad Buchanan burned his bridges a few years back.

LOL! I just noticed where Frist is. Pathetic.

The "Macaca" remark did not bother me. The groveling after the remark infuriated me. His betrayal of Southern Heritage is also very troubling. The man has no Core Convictions and will backtrack when confronted. IOW, he's gutless.

Why is anyone wasting money doing a poll on the week before Labor Day?
No one but us is thinking about that stuff right now...

Giuliani tops the list, as always.
What a shame about George Allen.

He used to have sky-high favorability, largely because he hadnt done anything to offend anyone. Um, isn't it a mark of a leader to occasionally offend someone? Put it another way: isn't it a mark of a wimp to never offend anyone?

I recall Ronald Reagan's off the cuff remarks being blamed repeatedly for his demise in the news media in 1980. And again in 1984.

Allen isn't very presidential, but when I saw the "macaca" clip on television, it didn't seem quite as bad as people had made it out to be. It looked like his was pulling out a word that sounded like SidDARth[a], maCAca, and found something his mother might have said to him without really knowing what it meant.
So I'd give him a pass on any sort of bad intention. But singling out someone who was only videotaping him for the other side for derrogatory mention does indicate bad judgement, and perhaps a bullying streak.
Pop psychoanalysis isn't worth much, but Allen looks like the kind of guy who didn't quite fit in, and so tried to overconform to what he took to be the jock or big man on campus model, something he hasn't quite outgrown.
The real significance of the incident may be that it indicates how much the Internet has changed politics. For good or ill, things get pondered and digested, analyzed and overanalyzed a lot more now than they once did.

I wouldn't call it cratering. (I do think he shouldn't have apologized. He should have stuck to his guns that he thought it was the guy's name.)
In any case, he's in 3rd place behind Gingrich and Giuliani.
If I have to worry about Guiliani winning, then I'll go with the closest conservative. At this point, that will be Gingrich.
I'd prefer Allen/Frist/Tancredo because Gingrich has a lot of baggage with his divorce.

Yes, most GOP bloggers are Caligliani fans, but most GOP voters, as conservative Protestants and conservative others, are not. So give up the silliness, and nominate Newt. Our elite will control themselves and give us Newt, or they will be ruled by Hillary.
