DIWANIYA, Iraq (Reuters) - Two dozen Iraqi soldiers were killed in fierce street fighting with Shi'ite militiamen in the city of Diwaniya on Monday in some of the bloodiest clashes yet among rival factions in Shi'ite southern Iraq.

Thirty seven people were killed, according to army, militia and medical sources. Five soldiers were posted missing in a battle officials said began late on Sunday when troops tried to detain men of the Mehdi Army militia of cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

After the Hezbollah debacle, Persia is getting pretty confident about things and are getting ready to annoint Moookie Ass-Sadr the new Nose-Droolah. Better nip that before it has international "legitimacy" like the Hezzies now fawningly have from Koffi on down.

Sadr should have been taken out 2 years ago and I'm still at a loss as to why he wasn't. That SOB will cause more trouble than he's worth, ad has cost many of our soldiers to be killed or injured. Mr. Bush should issue orders to kill him on sight to our military.

But I thought the al-Sadr was going to become a good guy! Didn't Bush offer him a cozy job in the Iraqi government?

Leave it to Reuters to spin the article to downgrade the courage of Iraqi troops and build up the terrorists ("Shi'ite militiamen," according to RotoReuters).

"Sadr should have been taken out 2 years ago and I'm still at a loss as to why he wasn't."

It's because Bush is still smoking the "lets bring democracy" crap!

I trust that the Bush Administration has a plan, however, it is obvious that the Al Mahdi army and Iran was emboldened by the limited success in Lebanon.

Now that Sadr's militia has openly fought Iraq's "army", the Iraqi government should give orders to kill Sadr and any of his militia who dares to continue taking up arms against them.

No. it's becasue the Iraqi gov't thought it would do more harm than good to kill him. Hopefully, they have changed the tune.

Agreed. Bush simply doesn't have the nards to kill this savage. Instead, he'll let him live, no matter how many of our troops he kills. In fact, none of our politicians have the nards to kill this goat shagger. This is costing american lives and american credibility... all sacrificed at the Grand Altar of Political Correctness.

Will we ever find a president with guts?

"No. it's becasue the Iraqi gov't thought it would do more harm than good to kill him (Sadyr)y. Hopefully, they have changed the tune."

I think this is the correct reason.
