Florida Governor Jeb Bush ordered a state of emergency in advance of Ernesto's anticipated Florida landfall as a hurricane. During his press briefing, Governor Bush emphasized the need to, "Have your family plan in place. Be prepared to be on your own for 72 hours. I know it sounds like a broken record." Jeb then repeated his message in Spanish.
All of the South Florida peninsula and Keys are under a hurricane watch, and portions of the watch areas may be upgraded to hurricane warnings later today.
NASA is moving Space Shuttle Atlantis from the launch pad back to its protective hangar, with the launch postponed until at least Sept. 7-8.
Hurricane Ernesto was downgraded to Tropical Storm status after battering Haiti and the Dominican Republic all day Sunday. The death toll in Haiti from Ernesto currently stands at 1 person; storm reports from Hispaniola are scarce this morning.
Ernesto has approached the eastern portion of Cuba, where the government issued a hurricane warning for six provinces, tourists were evacuated, and baseball games were played earlier Sunday than originally scheduled.

Tropical Storm Ernesto I
Hurricane Ernesto
Well if you take all of the guidance before last night, which placed it on the west coast of Florida, and then all of the guidance up until now, which put it on the east coast of Florida, it only makes sense that the track would be somewhere in the middle....
In the artillery, we called that bracketing :)
Precisely.
It shouldn't be much by then, if that holds up. And the way the long-term forecasts have gone with this thing, it will be forecast to hit Omaha by this time tomorrow.
Ugghh the track has it going thru VA - and the last thing I need here is another flood. Still haven't recovered from the one in June.
You are welcome...now you can pay us to use your tagline?
Depends on how big across the storm is. The Florida peninsula is approximately 140-150 miles wide. I don't think Ernesto's anywhere near that big.
No, south of Miami, think the area Andrew came in at, Homested/Turkey Point area.
At least that's what we're being told locally.
Anybody got a location for Jim Cantore or a hint of his hotel arrangements for tomorrow? :)
Sure....I uh think.
My weather guy, who is usually dead on, says we are going to have "a ton" of rain.
lol 'it says this space for rent'
LOL..It's been a long day.(Monday too)
I doubt they'll even bother to pull Cantore out of NOLA. No matter what Ernesto does, it's pretty obvious they're not going to get the Katrina II they so desperately hoped for. So they'll probably leave him where he is and relive the glory days of rumor-mongering and unhinged Bush-bashing that followed the real Katrina, and sigh wistfully for what could have been with Ernesto.
And now a double-whammy for the newshogs:
BOULDER, Colo. - Prosecutors abruptly dropped their case Monday against John Mark Karr in the slaying of JonBenet Ramsey, saying DNA tests failed to put him at the crime scene despite his insistence that he was there when the 6-year-old girl was killed.

Damn, what are they gonna overkill now?
Miami weather says there are u/l lows in the west and in the north that are funneling dry air down into the storm from the NW.
Yeah but I have about 300 TONS of metal roofing panels and assorted pieces/parts I'd have to move and that would prevent the non-documented workers from erecting walls. If it is only going to blow 30 mph, I'll stay on schedule. ;-) I'll do what the contractor wants......thanks for the reply.
Make it a hat trick - it's now known that Rove, Libby or Cheney were not the ones who "leaked" the name of the non-covert agent Mrs. Joe Wilson. Instead, it turned out to be one of the media's own State Dept. pets, Richard Armitage.
The media'll need to go on suicide watch - they're already on it at DU and Kos.
