YUMA, Ariz. -- A U.S. Border Patrol agent fatally shot a man who was throwing rocks at officers from the Mexican side of the border late Saturday, officials said.
The incident began after agents spotted a suspicious vehicle near the Andrade Port of Entry west of the California-Arizona border, just north of the international border and alongside the Colorado River.
The driver fled and then tried to swim across a pond along the river in an effort to return to Mexico, the agency said in a press release.
But the man began to struggle to stay afloat and agents threw him a flotation device and began to try to rescue him. Several people on the other side of the border then began throwing rocks at the agents, and one officer was struck in the head.
The officer then shot at a man who was getting ready to throw another rock, the Border Patrol said. Mexican authorities took the man to a hospital, where he died.
Attacks on Border Patrol agents have become more common in recent years, and this year agents say they're seeing smugglers become even more violent as more federal resources make crossing into the U.S. ever more difficult.
Smugglers are throwing softball-sized rocks, hunks of concrete and whole bricks at agents, either out of frustration or to try to get authorities to back off.
Just watch how this border guard will be vilified."
I doubt he will be vilified any worse than if he had yelled at the guy to stop it.
This way it's one less to testify against him.
Any of yall see the picture of the woman that was stoned to death? They weren't tossing pebbles. Rocks can kill you.
Too bad!
"Smugglers are throwing softball-sized rocks, hunks of concrete and whole bricks at agents, either out of frustration or to try to get authorities to back off."
Uhh..
Cindy...
We're on the same team.
Hardly. It's self defence. You may think rocks are harmless, but they can kill you just as dead as a bullet. Justified shooting, no matter how hard moonbats scream.
So, I see. Sorry:')
IMHO If we made it a policy that the border agents shot back immediately at anyone who attacked them, we would have fewer "incidents."
EEE, you are usually more sensible then this.
When was the last time you saw soldiers in war carrying a load of rocks?
The last time a rock did serious damage in a battle was David vs. Goliath.
The article doesn't get into it, but do ya reckon the other folks quit with the rock throwing when this scumbag got shot?
Mexican authorities took the man to a hospital, where he died.
----
The question is: Did the shot kill him or did something else?
In stoning, the victim is almost always immobilized, and even then I would guess the first hit is rarely fatal.
Watch and see though, charges will be brought against this agent. (Thougth I feel they should not be)
Rocks are dangerous objects. The officer did right.
well there you go. The border guard didn't kill him after all. Some fat Liberal was getting lipo suction for cheap, and there were noMexican Doc's available to treat the guy for his wound, so they killed him and tossed him on the pile.
"The last time a rock did serious damage in a battle was David vs. Goliath."
You should get out, more often.
Just look at what happened to Goliath.
No doubt. Look what happened to the last two. The Border Patrol need to stand up for their people IMO.
