Katherine Harris encourages people of all faiths to engage in government
Katherine Harris Campaign Press Release ^ | August 26, 2006 | Harris for Senate campaign

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION

TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.

Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."

In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.

As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.

I earned the right to speak my mind along time ago...

Of course you do. But when you say things like "I could care less about all this Katherine Harris messed up threads" you don't exactly invite production conversation - it's dismissive of the equally valid points of others.

You do not even know her to comment on her stability...Your depending on the liberal media to define her for you

I don't need to know her - those who know her best, those who work with her on her campaign, have defined her. They're leaving in droves. That's not a healthy campaign.

It's easy to blame the media, but it's also lazy and it's not always true. The media didn't invent the series of lies that the Harris campaign has told. The media didn't make the Harris campaign claim that they had been given endorsements that they didn't have. The media didn't make the Harris falsely claim that a rally had been moved at the last minute to explain away a pathetic turnout. Blaming the media might make you feel better, but it doesn't fix the real problems with the Harris campaign.

She is not going to cost us a Senate seat....If the RNC wanted to run someone else they were more than capable in doing so

The RNC did not run her. Where did you get that idea? Her supporters have been moaning that the Republican establishment hasn't been supporting her, as if they have a duty to take sides in a primary.

Which is what this is - a primary. This is how the party chooses its candidate. To complain that we aren't supporting the Republican candidate is to forget the simple fact that there isn't a Republican candidate yet.

The last time that I looked at her record it was conservative...Have you looked at it????

Yes, I have. And while there is a lot there I agree with, her character is extremely suspect to me, based on her own words and actions. And character counts to me.

I never said that someone from Florida shouldn't post....but I have said that Harris won't miss their vote....because that's true!

I know how to post on the FL message board....We don't call it the 'Florida section'....I wondered if there was another place.

The message board is used primarily for announcements not news stories.

I've seen annointing in places like Colorado where Coors was
backed for U.S. Senate in 2004 and you certainly know that in Florida President Bush and Carl Rove wanted Mel Martinez for U.S. Senate in 2004. Bill McCollum was dumped over the side.

We might not like it, but annointing happens and its obvious they didn't annoint Katherine Harris like Mel Martinez was in 2004.

So I am bothered by the lack of support for Harris knowing that the top people always get behind someone early, not because I like the idea that this thing happens.

Vote your conscience. If you want to vote for somebody like Harris, you are entitled to do so.

But don't pretend that she doesn't have serious character issues. If you can overlook them, that's fine.

I don't like it, but I recognize that sometimes it happens. That doesn't make it right, nor does it mean that a candidate must always be anointed in every primary.

The sense of entitlement from the Harris camp and her supporters, that she has somehow been wronged because she actually had to face opponents in a primary, is very arrogant. It is also revealing.

"Blew what should have been a GOP Senate seat pickup"

Great record, that.

This race is far from over....It will begin once the primary is over...You really do not understand her support her in Florida...She is the only conservative in this race......If there is a problem for some who is in it....Then contact Libby Dole and ask her why....I wanted Jeb to run and Katherine remain my congresswoman...That did not happen and I intend on supporting the only conservative in this race...I have stated my reasons on many of these Harris threads....The media set out to destroy her early on and they seemed to have succeeded//

The only way this race could have been easy..No matter who run was if Jeb Bush had got in the race....Other than that it was never ever going to be easy...It is pretty hard to unseat a incumbent..

In your opinion she has character flaws...I happen to know the other side of her...It is not any thing like what is being portrayed...I do intend to vote for her....So I guess that since you do not have a choice then I should just stay home as the race is over....What a deafest attitude...She has never ever quit on any vet who has gone to her for help and this vet will not quit on her because a few here do not like her...I will stick with a conservative that stands up for vets each and every time that I know of has been asked....

Do you admit that her campaign has had serious issues with the truth?

I know how the liberal media has portrayed it. This is not the first time the liberal media has set out to portray her....They have done the exact same thing in each and every election...I will ask you again...Just who do those of us who support Katherine Harris suppose to support....or we just to stay home....I think maybe you do not understand what loyalty means to a vet....At least this vet...

Riiiight.

The media has made her campaign lie. The media then made her campaign issue retractions for those lies.

Heck, I bet she's never lost a single campaign manager or advisor. Those were all fictional people fabricated with forged Social Security numbers to give the impression that her campaign is hemmoraging staffers.

I salute your service and appreciate your loyalty, but it's misplaced. She doesn't deserve it.

You are quite welcome.

September is way too late for a primary. It's amazing an incumbent ever loses when your primary is that late.
