Katherine Harris encourages people of all faiths to engage in government
Katherine Harris Campaign Press Release ^ | August 26, 2006 | Harris for Senate campaign

STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION

TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.

Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."

In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.

As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.

It's clear to me from his responses to those & other questions that Collins is a RINO.

Yes Matinez has endorsed Katherine but he's also admitted that she doesn't endorse his Senate amnesty bill.

He says Florida needs her to represent its conservative values and he'd like to work with her in the Senate.

She has said she appreciates his endorsement but will never support the Senate amnesty bill he sponsored.

Well going by your statement of Will Mcbride then the same goes for Harris. You can't have it both ways.

Will McBride said of the 'Immigrants United for Freedom' ........ 'I speak for them'.

Harris clearly stated that she appreciated Martinez's endorsement but that his position on amnesty is not hers.

You and others keep pointing out that since Will was at that rally and since one of those groups support that was there support other causes then Will Must support those other causes which is not true.

So the same must be for Harris. Cause Harris accepts the endorsement of Martinez and Martinez supports Amnesty so then Harris supports Amnesty. Just useing the same logic you others use.

Once one is forced to start "clarifying" what one said, to the point of completely disowning the previous statement, one's political campaign is doomed.

It's not just association.....

Will McBride said of the 'Immigrants United for Freedom' ........ 'I speak for them'.

He admits he's supportive of their cause.....BIG DIFFERENCE.

Martinez supports Harris but she repudiates his position on amnesty!

No He has never said he speaks for that organization. He has on numerous occasions stated his position on Immigration. He has stated that he believes that the first thing to be done is to secure the border and to follow the laws of the land. He has stated that he does not support Amnesty and that anyone who breaks the law should be dealt with.

Then how do you explain this:

McBride admits walking under the Mexican Flag at these rallies.

Excerpt:
McBride also tried to deflect questions about how he could take such a tough stance against illegal immigration when he was marching at immigration reform rallies this spring.

One woman in the audience showed the crowd pictures of McBride at a May rally in which he was holding an "Immigrants United for Freedom" sign and walking with American and Mexican flags behind him.

"I am an attorney," said McBride, who has a practice in downtown Orlando. "I did speak out on behalf of them."

He said he spoke out on behalf of the people there no for the Organization.

He has stated his position on Immigration on several occasions. Actually He is walking under the US Flag. The Mexican flags are to the right of him except for the small one in the back.

Will McBride says on his Website:

'Protect our borders and fix our broken immigration laws.' Notice....no mention of amnesty....just a generic 'fix our broken immigration laws' . What does 'broken' mean? Is that a new 'code word' for amnesty?

If he's not for amnesty as you say...

why doesn't he clearly say so on his website?

I'm not buying it.....McBride marches with IUF just two weeks before he decides to run for the Senate....makes me wonder if that group didn't convince him to 'speak for them' in the Senate!

From a Palm Beach Post Article:

"We need to control our borders, we are a nation of laws," McBride said. "That's why I'm against an amnesty program. Many Hispanics are against an amnesty program. When we were kids, we didn't like anyone jumping in line."

You can also go to the following link and see his positions on Immigration.

From the Tampa Tribune Aug 27, 2006:

McBride denied that he changed his views on immigration when he decided to run, as Collins and Monroe have charged.

He said he favors immigration reform and thinks border security should be a top priority. Although he opposes "amnesty," he said, he thinks a reform bill should allow illegal immigrants to "adjust their status" and continue working here.

At one point during the rally, however, he was photographed carrying the sign of a pro-amnesty group.

He later made a Spanish-language television spot advertising his legal services and urging immigrants to call Congress members and vote for their interests.

IUF is described as a 'pro-amnesty group' in this article.

McBride was quoted that he 'spoke for them'. Note that he made a Spanish language TV ad and urged them 'to call Congress members to vote for their interests'.

Looks to me like he changed his position when he decided or was 'encouraged' to run for the Senate.

Harris doesn't have such a perfect record on Immigration either in fact it seems in 2004 Representative Harris supported the interests of the National Council of La Raza 50 percent.

NO I know where McBride stands on Immigration. He has said that he strongly favors Border Security and is against Amnesty. He has said he does not support the Senate Bill. You and the other are the ones who insists that Harris is so perfect and is completely supportive of Immigration control and stopping illegal immigration. Which is not true.

You what else you tell everyone else to stop hijacking threads here you have done it your self. This whole thread has been about Harris comments in the Florida Baptist witness dealing with Christians and you have gone and hijacked it to move it away from Harris. So I really hope we won't be seeing you telling others to stop hijacking threads cause that would make you a hypocrite.

Nice try.....FLMcBrideFan

But you started it with the Martinez & Amnesty post.

Again you deflect when I post proof that McBride changed his position to run for the Senate.

I have taken the time to create a record on this thread about McBride......and you have never answered this question:

If McBride's against amnesty as you claim......why doesn't he say so on his official Campaign Website?

He only mentions 'broken immigration laws'....what does that mean?

Maybe you should send him an email with that question...
