Former US President Carter 'Disappointed' With Blair By VOA News 27 August 2006
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter says he is "extremely disappointed" with Tony Blair for what he says is the British prime minister's failure to constrain President Bush's policies toward Iraq.
Mr. Carter, an outspoken critic of the 2003 U.S.-led Iraq invasion, was quoted Sunday in Britain's Sunday Telegraph newspaper. He said he thought that Mr. Blair could have had a moderating influence on Washington, "and he has not."
Mr. Blair has been President Bush's closest international ally on Iraq, and Britain has the second largest contingent of troops in the country.
Mr. Carter said people in many countries he has visited equate U.S. policy with British interests,

Plains, Georgia has its idiot.
In the run up to the Iraq war .. while Hillary was supposedly hawking her book in Europe, Bill Clinton was lobbying European members of the UN to vote against going to war in Iraq.
During one of Bill's lobbying efforts, he met up with Blair at a London cocktail party and book signing. According to a UK reporter, Blair and Bubba had a very loud and controntational discussion - in which Bubba informed Blair that if he continued to support Bush and the war, Blair would not win re-election. Bubba also tried to tell Blair that America was acting like a bully and needed to back off.
Funny .. I don't recall ever reading or hearing about that meeting in ANY AMERICAN MEDIA OUTLET ..??
Then, after that meeting and the successful advance by the USA and the UK in Iraq, Blair came to America to speak before a joint session of Congress. It was here that Blair tipped me off about his conversation with Bubba:
On July 17, 2003, Tony Blair made this statement:
There is no more dangerous theory in international politics than that we need to balance the power of America with other competitive powers; different poles around which nations gather.
Such a theory may have made sense in 19th century Europe. It was perforce the position in the Cold War.
Today, it is an anachronism to be discarded like traditional theories of security. And it is dangerous because it is not rivalry but partnership we need; a common will and a shared purpose in the face of a common threat. [Which is why Tony gets it!]
For those in Rio Linda an anachronism means: a person or a thing that is chronologically out of place; especially: one from a former age that is not compatible in the present.
Personally, I believe the statement by Tony was a reply and slap in the face - to Bill Clintons confrontational meeting with Tony in London [if you stick with Bush you will lose your election].
And .. Tony did win re-election.
Why wont this sack of crap die already?
You beat me to the punch line... Carter is like the old crabby, cantankerous aunt-in-law who never dies and outlives all the good aunts and uncles.
Guys like that are more worried about their legacy. Both Carter and Clinton are working overtime to fix how history sees them.
He reacted to his defeat for reelection by retreting to Plains, GA and setting up the Carter center. He also withdrew from the Baptist convention and teaches his own superior form of Christianty while he criticizes fundamentalism. So, he is isolated in his own world scolding others.
Sad but true. Reagan, Nixon, Ford not well... Sack of Crap... doing great.
Bush and US Republicans are too gutless to call Carter what he is, but I sure wish Blair would comment:
"Being insulted by the most failed President of the last century is really quite a compliment, I would expect that his negative endorsement should actually HELP my poll numbers"
Good ol Jimmah "Americas best days are behind her" Carter.
I cant believe this guy was a submariner let alone a president
