Those who believe in nothing will fall for anything, as the old saying goes. So it's only fitting that a Republican Party that has ceased to believe in anything has fallen for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Maybe in the early days of his administration, and through the defeat of his reform agenda last November, it was defensible to support him. But no more. Yet many Republican leaders at the state GOP convention in Century City were still atwitter over the Terminator's tired clichés and faux tough talk.

At Century City, Schwarzenegger blasted the Democrats: "Our friends in the other campaign want to go back to the failed policies of the past – higher taxes, more government spending, more government regulations and less growth."
Compare what the other party does with Schwarzenegger's program of higher debt spending, more government spending and more government regulations and less growth, and it's quite a choice, isn't it?
Of course, the Democrats are always bad. So, of course Republicans will usually rally around their candidate, no matter how far afield his viewpoints might be. But a point is reached where it's not worth it anymore, where victory isn't so sweet because "our" guy isn't in any fundamental way different from "their" guy.

At the Republican convention, Schwarzenegger refused to be seen with the Republican slate of down-ticket candidates. Tom McClintock, one of the most principled men in modern political life, is running for lieutenant governor against John Garamendi, who during an Editorial Board meeting a couple years ago actually sung the praises of the Cuban health care system! ... I'm going to have to hold my nose after the Governators stupid comments about people who called illegal aliens an invasion (hint: millions of people in your state without permission IS in invasion, dummy).
Or, how about a campaign to write in Tom McClintock as Gov?

The California Republican Party needs Arnold the way a starving man needs a tapeworm.

Can the CAGOP leadership appreciate the dilemma they've created for themselves, at the top of the ticket, when they surrendered their principles and organization to the Wilsonegger Gang and its liberal, celebrity spokesman?
Did the Wilsonegger Gang think that Republicans would follow quietly or did they just assume that their spokesman had such broad appeal that the conservative members of the CAGOP weren't needed anymore to win statewide election?

He's usually much more reserved in his comments, though. He really let loose in this one! He might have well said 'the emperor has no clothes.'
Not only does he point that Arnold has totally distanced himself from the other Republican candidates, but he outlines the track record and highlights the absence of ARnold's support for the Eminent Comain proposition. Principles be damned--it's all about power.
Hey all. I think down the ballot Republicans like McClintock should receive conservative support. Voting for Schwarzenegger will only encourage other liberal Republicans like him and will allow him to continue to use the GOP for his own personal gain. I would suggest voting for Ed Noonan, the American Independent Party candidate for Governor. Check out his website at www.ednoonan4gov.org
The only thing he left out was the refusal to endorse Mountjoy. As I asked an LA Times reporter, someone please point out one thing that this "extremist" Dick Mountjoy has said or espoused that is NOT contained in the official California Republican Party Platform.

Dog, I'd invite you to Ohio, but we seem to be following the same path as California. We had primaries here, where we could have dumped Mike DeWine and replaced him with an actual conservative. Imagine our shock when 77% of Republican voters pulled the lever to support his re-election bid. That is a lot of Republicans committing random acts of blindness.
It is enough to shake your faith that people have any long-term memory capacity at all. Forgive my saying so, but it may take even more damage to the country before we collectively decide that "Free Stuff" isn't worth the price.
I encourage each voter to find a registered, gubernatorial candidate that most nearly represents their values.
A protest vote cast for governor, whether Reagan, McClintock, Mickey Mouse or not voting the top of the ballot, is wasted energy. Your franchise is too precious to waste and the CAGOP isn't listening.
Select your choice for governor and then go to the polls, mark the ballot or write in the candidate's name.
I don't want to have to keep posting it, but people still don't seem to get it. It's Arnold and Angelides.
The Dems are COUNTING on the conservatives to win -- it's part of their win strategy.
Anyone who is still advocating the defeat of Arnold, urging conservatives to not cast a vote for Governor or vote third party, which means victory for leftist socialist Angelides is NO CONSERVATIVE. PERIOD.

Here are some things he could do:
o Attack Arnold from the right :
§ Illegal immigration–Arnold has angered the conservative base with some of his comments on this issue. The Angelides campaign, or perhaps an anti-Arnold independent expenditure campaign, could attack Arnold in the mail or on the radio and use Arnold’s own words against him.
§ Taxes/government spending–The state government continues to run what is essentially a deficit and Arnold’s numerous proposals to increase government spending and borrowing turn off Republicans. This line of attack could also mitigate some of the tax attacks against Angelides.

In other words, you are pushing Angelides' strategy agenda, trying to get conservatives to not cast a vote for Arnold.

Let me ask you, and did ANGELIDES earn the votes of conservatives?
Any conservative not voting for Arnold IS VOTING FOR ANGELIDES. That is actually part of Anglides' win strategy -- see my post 16 on this thread.
Voters better make a choice: Arnold or Angelides and ask themselves if they want to bear responsibility for Gov. ANgelides, who will raise taxes, wants income redistribution, wants to sign a bill for universal healthcare (socialized medicine) funded by your tax dollars, will sign a bill for drivers licenses for illegals, and homosexual marriage bill.
Arnold has vetoed bills the Legislature passed pushing the above, and said he will veto others.
NOBODY has the right to call themselves a conservative, if they help socialist Angelides elected. If you stay home, don't vote for the governor slot, or vote third party YOU ARE HELPING ANGELIDES WIN.
