No, it's not conversion. It was a smart move by these two in an attempt to ensure their own release. It's very possible they were told if they converted, condemned the actions of the West/Israel they would be let go.

Conversion under gunpoint is not conversion. Actually, it is -- from the radical islamist viewpoint.
This of course means that their renunciation of the "conversion" marks them as reprobate muslims -- a state far worse than being a mere "infidel", because for a muslim to "leave his religion", there's a death penalty.
