"I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better."
This is a couple of months old, but I decided to post it because Miss Nicks' attitude is such a nice contrast to those of Willie Nelson, Barbra Streisand, et al.

"I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." This is notable only because it's so rare.
It really should be the standard by which all entertainers operate.
She just went up another notch in my book, if that's possible.

Good for her!
Would that more big name entertainers were like that.

Thanks for posting Huntress. I hadn't seen this and will definitely have to let Ms. Nicks know I appreciate her efforts by buying a couple of her CD's. Off to Youtube to watch a little Stevie video too! Wish there were more like her!
Cheers - Dinah

This is a position one can respect.
And I'm sure those soldiers and their widows do.
This is real class.

Of course Stevie Nicks gets it. I believe she was a military brat. Those of us that grew up living at military base to base during the 50's and 60's had a rather unique education.

She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley. Sounds like she needs to make another few records for me to buy. Or go to one of her concerts if she ever tours again.

"I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war." Contrast that with Cher using soldier's helmets as a launch pad for her "Bush is going to hell" tirades. Or Franken using his USO work to buttress his anti-war position.
Stevie Nicks easily could have done something similar, and she would have received nothing but praise and support from her peers and her industry. The fact that she didn't is a good sign that she not only supports the troops, but their mission as well.

This SO ROCKS!!!! I love Stevie Nicks, am still a big fan of hers. Nothing compares to "Gypsy" or "Stand Back" or "Rhiannon" - and I was always trying to follow her fashions. She was "Goth" before "goth" became a phenomenon.
Am pleased to know she has a healthy measure of class and common sense. I dont like getting into the politics of this war either, because Im just someone who is watching it all. But I love that she is using her time and effort in music with great charity and class. Bravo, Stevie!
Now to dig out all my handkerchief hem skirts and shawls...

She has also sent baby clothes to war widows, joined bedside vigils and with the United Service Organization (USO), hopes to provide every returning soldier with a music player. She adds, "Any one of them could be my own child. You can't help falling in love with every one of them."This is why I fell in love with her, a classy Lady from...TEXAS!(gasp)

Even if in private she's a flaming left wing loony, she has enough decency to keep that separate from what goes on in the public eye.
