WELCOME BACK, MAX! Max Cleland is coming back to Johnstown!!
Former Sen. Max Cleland of Georgia is throwing a rally in Johnstown, PA for Rep. John Murtha -- the day before Vets for the Truth's Boot Murtha Rally. The news is highlighted in the following release from Murtha's re-election committee: [EXCERPT:] JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Aug. 25 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Murtha for Congress Committee said that former U.S. Sen. Max Cleland (D-Ga.) announced last night he's leading a large-scale effort among his veteran brothers to support U.S. Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), who is coming under attack from "radical right-wing forces in the veterans' community" aimed at "swift-boating Murtha, like they did former Democratic nominee for president Sen. John Kerry. The rally will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006 at 11 a.m. in Central Park in Johnstown, Pa. Cleland said he expects veterans from all over America to make the journey "to support Murtha in an unprecedented show of unity against the war." VFTT's Boot Murtha Rally is set for Sunday, Oct. 1 starting at 2 pm. Rally participants will gather at Central Park in Johnstown and proceed to the Cambria County War Memorial Arena for the full event. Pennsylvania radio personalities Quinn & Rose of the popular "War Room with Quinn & Rose" show will be co-emcee'ing the Rally. Also lined up for the Boot Murtha Rally: Terry Pennington, father of Rob Pennington, one of the so-called "Pendleton Eight," who are being held without bail at the Camp Pendleton, CA, brig. They are being charged with murder and conspiracy, those seven Marines and one Navy Corpsman. David Beamer, father of Todd Beamer, leader of the anti-hijacker group on Flight 93 (the man who said, "Let's roll!" John Wrobleski, father of a Marine killed in Iraq, and who deeply resents the dishonor brought upon the USMC by Murtha's comments. Gregg Garvey, father of Justin Garvey, who was killed in Iraq, founder of a program that enables local communities to purchase and erect memorials to their fallen sons and daughters. He will lead the memorial service that precedes the rally. |

Cleland--Oh yeah, the guy who BLEW HIMSELF UP--Then Claimed Wounded Warrior.
There was a reason he did not get re-elected.

I sure wouldn't bet against you on the affiliation of many at his rally ..... That would probably be a good idea. I see the same faces, whether in DC, NC, TX, NYC.....they travel in a pack, like the wolfs they are.
Conservative dems? Not sure there is such a thing anymore. I keep hearing it is so, but cannot fathom how any sane person looks at what the party has become and continue to align themselves with them.

The True Story of Max Cleland's Vietnam Injuries.
The 2nd of the 12th Cavalry was engaged in a combat operation at the time of this incident. Max Cleland was with the Battalion Forward Command Post in heavy combat involving the attack of the 1st Cavalry Division up the valley to relieve the Marines who were besieged and surrounded at the Khe Shan Firebase. The whole surrounding area was an active combat zone (some might call the entire country of Vietnam a combat zone). (Is Iraq a combat zone?) Max, the Battalion Signal Officer, was engaged in a combat mission I personally ordered to increase the effectiveness of communications between the battalion combat forward and rear support elements: e.g. Erect a radio relay antenna on a mountain top. By the way, at one point the battalion rear elements came under enemy artillery fire so everyone was in harms way.
As they were getting off the helicopter, Max saw the grenade on the ground and he instinctively went for it. Soldiers in combat don't leave grenades lying around on the ground. Later, in the hospital, he said he thought it was his own but I doubt the concept of "ownership" went through his mind in the split seconds involved in reaching for the grenade. Nearly two decades later another soldier came forward and admitted it was actually his grenade. Does ownership of the grenade really matter? It does not.

I always enjoy your thoughts on these matters.
I remember reading awhile back that he had also made many enemies in his party over past actions, ABSCAM and the like.

If I were one of Murtha's constitutents and had no alternate media Internet knowledge, Cleland's rally would hit me like a sledge hammer.
In a positive or negative way? I am not sure if you are saying this will help Mutha-Focker or not.

Sorry -- it would hit me in a totally negative way. Cleland's rally will attract The Code Pink, Cindy Sheehan, Michael Moore crowd, which is the antithesis of District 12's political values.

Vets For The Truth to
redeploy John Murtha
Murtha sides up with Code Pink
Code Pink has given $650,000 to the terrorists in Fallujah, participated in war crimes tribunals against America and has called American soldiers "killers" on their website among many treasonous actions. They display signs like "Maimed for a Lie" at Walter Reed Army Medical Center where wounded troops are healing.
Text of Code Pink's statement on meeting Rep. Murtha:
Thank You Congressman Murtha! CODEPINK co-founder Gael Murphy and DC coordinator Allison Yorra met with Congressman Murtha to thank him for his courageous stand on Iraq. We presented him with our pink badge of courage and pink flowers sent by CODEPINK members nationwide.
Murtha's "Cut & Run" Comments on Iraq: "there's no progress at all" "it's worse than it was prewar" "we should immediatley redeploy" "War cannot be won on the ground" "I have said it's a civil war" "We cannot win this militarily. Our tactics themselves keep us from winning," |
Murtha's Comments on our Troops: "Would you join (the military) today?," he was asked in an interview. "No," replied Murtha "And I think you're saying the average guy out there who's considering recruitment is justified in saying 'I don't want to serve'," the interviewer continued. "Exactly right," said Murtha "we have become a catalyst for violence" in Iraq Marines "killed innocent civilians in cold blood." at Haditha "I will not excuse murder, and this is what happened" "This is worse than Abu Ghraib" "Hopefully, this is an isolated incident. But we're supposed to be selling ideas of America, ideals of America, and we're losing that war." "These kind of things have to be brought out immediately," he told "This Week," "because if the Marines got away with it, other Marines might think it's okay." "What they're saying to me is we're stretching the military too thin. The army is broken, and we couldn't deploy to a second front if we wanted to." "The troops don't know what to do. They don't have the direction they need in order to supervise the prisoners," |
"The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified,
shall be directly proportional as to how they perceive the veterans of earlier wars
were treated and appreciated by their nation."
-- President George Washington --
"Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damage morale and
undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, exiled, or hanged."
-- President Abraham Lincoln --

I agree. talk is cheap. Problem is, the American people are asleep at the wheel, and one of our major political (Democrat) parties is an enemy agent.
To: IPWGOP
Thanks for the reply, it is heartening to know the district frowns upon those sicko commie types.
It is strange that I even have to write a sentence like the one above. As long as the Murtha's and Lamont's get votes though, we have to acknowledge the enemy among us.
I think Diana Irey is the perfect candidate to take this louse on and pray for her success.

What, winning his own district or winning the majority leadership?
Until recently you would have to say that Murtha was a good bet to win reelection. (Unopposed in '04, winning 74% in '02)...
My sense of it is that there is an assumption that unless there is dissatisfaction with the leadership (or some other circumstance such as the whip losing election, or the whip moving up to Speaker just as the leader retires (Gingrich '95), that the standing whip moves up to leader unless the whip doesn't want the position. Now why would the Democratic caucus be dissatisfied with its leadership if it got majority status?
Take a look at recent leaders:
2003 Pelosi (was whip)
1989 Gephardt (Coelho resigned under scandal)
1987 Foley (was whip)
1977 Wright (whip McFall defeated in home district)
1973 O'Neill (was whip)
1971 Boggs (was whip)
1961 Albert (was whip)
1955 McCormick (was whip)
Hmmm...I see a pattern here. My guess is that Steny Hoyer will be the next leader should the post become available.
This does not mean that Murtha cannot campaign for the slot, although I can understand Pelosi et al. telling him to cool it.
On the Republican side, yes, 2006 Boehner is an exception.
I don't remember Leslie Arends, whip 1955-75. So far as I can figure he never sought the leadership. Halleck, Ford, and Rhodes leapfrogged him in any case.
