Almost 20 percent of the female cadets at The Citadel ( a public, coeducational college established as the Military College of South Carolina in 1842) last spring reported they had been sexually assaulted since enrolling at the military college, according to results of a survey released by the school Wednesday.
Approximately 4 percent of the male cadets also reported being sexually assaulted since joining the formerly all-male school, according to the results of the survey.

All the women and about 30 percent of the men were asked to complete the anonymous online survey, says Citadel spokesperson Charlene Gunnells. Of those, 114 women and 487 men responded.
The reported sexual assaults included unwanted touching, but 16 of the 27 incidents reported by women and 15 of the 23 reported by men involved unwanted sexual penetration or oral sex.

Unless being within earshot of wolf-whistle is now considered being "assaulted."
Oh, wait, so men reported being "assaulted" in the survey, too?
You'd neve guess that from the headline, would you?
They don't say how many of the assaults on women were done by women.
I'm a huge fan of The Dog Whisperer. Last night I watched a rerun of his show where he rehabilitates three dogs from New Orleans after Katrina. Two males and one female, none were neutered, were put into his pack. If you haven't watched his show, he is very strong on the "power of the pack." All his permanent pack members are neutered and he pointed out how the introduction of non-neutered dogs into the pack immediately disrupted the pack. He had a lot of trouble keeping control. So, in a military "pack" what happens when the possibility of "mating" occurs either through homosexual contact or introduction of females? Disruption, lack of control. It's pretty obvious to me. A lot of it is about dominance and the attempt by the alpha's to have a lock on the right to mate.
Look who wrote the story. something fishy there
Well, now, I guess we better shut that horrible place right down.
Solution: Get the women out of the military academies.
To the point of the headline- Female Cadets Report Assaults, lets do the math. 20% of females report sexual assualts. 4% of males report sexual assault. The college has ten times more men than women. Therefore, for 1000 cadets 900 are men and 36 (4%) reported sexual assaults. 100 are female and 20 of them reported sexual assualts. Is the headline the real story here? Isn't the far more interesting story that nearly twice as many males report that they have been sexually assualted at the Citadel.
Females should not be at the Citadel.
One really needs to know what they mean by sexual assaults.
IOW, too many female students are flunking out.
(Remember a few years back when a couple of these gals were crying loud and long about being sexually (and otherwise) hassessed, assaulted, etc. etc. and it turns out that their grades, performance has been swirling down the potty for some time?)
The typical 19-20-21 year old male would be saying :"oh, please, miss- assault me!"
487 male cadets responded to this survey? Methinks the boys were having a little fun with the diversity crowd. My younger son is a graduate of the Citadel, and this is exactly the sort of thing that he and his pals would love to do!
Exactly...unless one clearly defines the term, the study is meaningless. I suppose one could argue that self determination of what a sexual assault is is a valid means of measuring if the institution has an enviroment that is uncomfortable for females, but that's a far cry from what this study appears to be looking for.
FReep this poll!
So, if twice as many men are assaulted than females. Is it possible that for every 3 women, one male is assaulted? Or does the Citadel have a gay problem?
NO!
The Citadel was established as an All-Male Military college in South Carolina in 1842. The COURTS made it coeducational just a few short years ago in an act of liberal judicial legislation.
There - now that I have that off my back..
