The subject of pole shift is interesting, but this article is woefully inadequate and superficial. Those interested in the subject can get a good start and overview of the various theories and the supporting and non-supporting evidence with this book:

Pole Shift: Predictions and Prophecies of the Ultimate Disaster (Paperback), by John Warren White. It's available at Amazon.com

What? Is the global warming threat losing its impact? Now we have to worry about the earth falling over?

Ok, so let's see.. the mass of the earth is about 5.942E24kg; the mass of a large volcano (Mount Wrangell in Alaska, one of the most voluminous andesetic shield volcanoes in the world, 3x the size of Mount Rainier, 30km in radius, 2000m in elevation, volume 900 cu km) is 2.23425E9kg, which is 0.000000000000038% of the mass of the earth. The earth is a spinning spheroid, which means it has gyroscopic inertia and so will tend to resist falling over or otherwise changing its speed or orientation...

What are these guys envisioning, a volcano the size of the moon? Or are they just geologically illiterate?

The UN must act now to stop this and pass a resolution banning oversized volcano forming far from the equator.

It would take one big volcano! Remember the Earth's core is solid iron the size of Mars. I would not lose to much sleep over this.

We used to discuss this idea when I was a kid 50 years ago. So did Albert Einstein, although he wasn't a kid then. It could happen.

Soooo.... If the entire population of China and India were to migrate to Australia, the world would flip over?

Note: this topic is from 2006. I think we had a similar topic, but I'm not going to dig for it.
