If you die of fright, I guess that would be repel. I suspect the old bag is a broad spectrum cross species repellent though.

Topic detour:
A few months ago in MI, in the parking lot of a mall, I saw a couple of huge Canada geese atop an SUV, ardently pecking at the sunroof. I had a good chuckle - they must have thought it was a frozen puddle. On my way out of the mall after lunch, they were still there, futilely pecking away, and had deposited a couple of their calling cards.
Which reminded me of a B&B that Mrs. Bruck and I stayed at, whose proprietor had a couple of pet goats. The door panels of her car were bashed in, from the goats ramming their reflections.
Moral: never wash your car.

Are maggots canibals? Will a bag of dead flies get maggots?

We tried this at work during the summer. Smoking area outside had a zillion flies. Someone hung up a bunch of ziplock bags filled with water all over the place. The flies kept coming.
I suspect Arizona flies are more intelligent than Florida flies? Or the crap still floating in the treated Colorado River water attracts flies? I'm leaning towards the more intelligence factor.

For Heaven's sake don't mention Betty's Pies--now my wife will want to fly up to Minnesota just to have a pie.
Although I would want to stop by the BlackWoods restaurant.
And the water in Two Harbors is the best-tasting in the world.
Cheers!

Seems to work in TX........have em hanging near-where the dogs evacuate.

Is that the Hillary bag part or the water itself?

HAHA!! I tried the stinky bags last year and they worked, but I think I like your idea the best, lol. We have two dogs, this should keep us busy for the rest of the summer. I can already see the satisfaction in this method.

I don't think it deals with ticks. It seems to keep the roaches down, though.

We don't do it, but it might make for a good experiment. Thought you saw it when you were in TX?
We thought it was to repel mosquitos, not flies.
Every time we've asked how/if it works we've gotten a different answer. Guess it's just one of Life's Great Mysteries (tm).

Scientists say the method has no real merit...Hell. Scientists can't even figure out if Pluto is a planet or not. So if a scientist says it won't work, then as far as I'm concerned, it works.

Heh, I use Clinton as a euphemism for feces.
But if the bags have HIldebeast in it, it would scare of everyone and everything. It would be the equivalent of ground zero nuke detonation. :)

I've seen 'em hung in some restaurants around Austin. Works about as well as a plastic owl keeps pigeons away.
