Democratic candidate offers $1.26 gasoline Associated Press CINCINNATI - With Vice President Dick Cheney in town for a GOP fundraiser, a Democratic congressional candidate offered cheap gas Thursday to make a point about energy policies.
John Cranley, a Cincinnati city councilman opposing six-term Republican Rep. Steve Chabot, campaigned at a gas station where motorists temporarily could buy regular unleaded for $1.26 a gallon, down from $2.69.
Cranley said $1.26 was the price five years ago, and that current prices reflect the effects of Bush administration energy policies that Chabot has supported.
"While I'm doing that, Steve Chabot will be busy filling up his coffers with the help of Cheney, who pushed through huge subsidies for the oil companies," Cranley said before the scheduled half-hour discount.
Cranley's campaign said at least 98 motorists took advantage of the discount deal, which was extended to an hour because cars were lined up around the blocks in both directions.
The campaign said it will reimburse the gas station owner about $1,700 for the difference in prices of the gas sold during the event.
Bob Husman, owner of Bob's Marathon, said customers clearly enjoyed the short-lived discount.
"They want gas prices to be back like that, but that's not going to happen," Husman said. "We could only hope."
Chabot's campaign expected the Cheney visit to a private home Thursday afternoon to raise at least $250,000 for the incumbent's District 1 race. A Chabot spokeswoman dismissed Cranley's gasoline rollback as a gimmick.
"John Cranley is long on stunts and short on solutions," Chabot spokeswoman Jessica Towhey said.

Chabot ought to stage a sale of gasoline at $10.00 per gallon and state that this would be the price if the idiot democrats could enact their preferred practices.

I went on a driving vacation two weeks after the attack and I practically had the interstate to myself. Sure gas was cheap, but come on.
Gasoline can be cheap again... lets let down our guard and let 10,000 americans get killed. If you want cheap gas, that will do it.
Question for Mr. Cranley: How many oil refineries have been built in the last 20 years? Why? Why aren't we drilling off the coast of Florida and California? Why aren't we drilling in ANWR? Why aren't we building a wind farm off Cape Cod?

Build new refineries, reduce the number of grades refined, cut the gas tax in half, open up ANWR and drill offshore Florida. That will bring back 1.25$ per gallon gas. Oh, did Cranley mention he was against all of the above ideas. I guess its easier to blame Bush, then to have a real plan.
Mr. Cranley should open up a convenience store with a gas station and sell his gasoline at $1.26 a gallon then since he seems to think it's as easy as changing the prices in the computer.
Does he bother to describe to us what magic he intends to use to do this?
They cut off "working people" waiting in line. Even the local lib TV stations referred to this as a stunt every time they ran the story. Cranley spent $1,700 and probably gained 12 votes.
Steve Chabot, his opponent, ought to have a ball with this! If he doesn't pounce on this dumb@ss Cranley with all fours, Chabot is a real chump.
Another way to look at this is that Bush is responsible for the increased affluence of third world countries.
It is after all that the third world countries such as India now have the wealth to buy automobiles and consume petroleum fuels.
So GW should be the next recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
Like that will ever happen.
With democrats it more likely will be a tax hike proposal.
