New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, speaking to reporters in New Orleans on Friday, acknowledged that some people might consider his comments about the recovery of New York's World Trade Center area to be insensitive. But he said it was the only comparison he could make to the devastation that was seen in New Orleans and the progress that's been made since.
Nagin said some people may take issue with words he uses, but said he doesn't know of cases in which the overall context of his comments have been disputed.

"My cesspool is better than your cesspool!"
N'awlins media spinning for reNagin...Imagine that!
Ray Nagin should think about laying off the crack pipe.
Someone needs to ask Noggin how his performance in a crisis compared with someone who was a real leader, say Rudy for example.
Time to look for another speechwriter.
Not at all, simply ignorant, pathetic...and business as usually for that morally bankrupt buffoon.
5 years is quite a long time to handle debris removal and reconstruction of the WTC towers area. Political and probably legal paralysis is the rule there from what I can tell.
New Orleans does have devastation on a scale beyond that.
The sensitive and the politically correct may consider the WTC area a sacred cow from comments on government efficiency and bureacratism, but it is hard to deny that 5 years later they have yet to rebuild anything.
Nagin does not know his ass from "a hole in the ground."
The comments weren't tough, they were classless and stupid. Half the refugees from New Orleans haven't come back, and may never come back. They are the smart ones. Who wants to live in a city where the elected officials will let you drown?
Actually, it probably is.
While both are cesspools of filth and humanity, New York has Al Sharpton.
Let's just call this the "week of idiots"!
He could have looked across the lake, for a comparison.
I still think they ought to turn it into a national landfill however.
The WTC dead were as a result of a terrorist attack, the speed or lack thereof was directly relational to it being a federal investigation site and a tomb where debris = people.
The New Orleans dead had FIVE days warning if they had headed it.
The differences are stark and real.
I have relatives in Slidell who stayed with us near Mobile during Katrina and for the next few weeks. (Mom & Dad had to stay 5 monyhs.) WWL was the only contact with the area for days. It performed a noble public service in those first few weeks even.
My sister, who used too listen to WWL all the time before the storm, now only listens to Rush from 11 - 2 CT. She tells me the rest of the daytime staff has gotten completely obnoxious with the "poor, poor, pitiful me" mantra.
She says that Garland Robinette and Bob Delgiorno are particularly repulsive with constant derision of Pres. Bush and FEMA. I guess they are trying to bump ratings with the locals. My guess is they are contributing little if anything to morale in the NOLA area.
It is comparing apples and power shovels.
um... excuse me... but somebody should tell that stooopid chickenhead beggar that NYC G-0 is being rebuilt with PRIVATE MONEY and from INSURANCE companies that have fought tooth and nail to not pay any money!!! now whats RagginNaggins excuse???
The nuts in my chocolate bar are bigger than the nuts in your chocolate bar...at the end of the day, of course.
