Two French soldiers killed in Afghanistan

Agence France-Presse

Paris

The French Ministry of Defense has announced that two French soldiers belonging to French special forces were killed last friday during a firefight against Talibans in the Eastern part of Afghanistan.

Two other French soldiers have been wounded during the operation, according to the Ministry.

French Defense Minister, Michele Alliot-Marie, expressed her emotion and sent her condolences to the families and friends of the soldiers, and expressed hopes the two wounded soldiers would recover quickly.

Soldiers belonging to the French special forces fight terrorism in Afghanistan alongside the US forces.

The French ministry expressed its "total support of the French forces taking part to operations, and particularly those fighting terrorism in Afghanistan".

These deaths raised the number of French soldiers killed in Afghanistan to 7 since september 2005, said a spokesperson from the French General Headquarters.

Since a member once explained to me it was "socially acceptable" to mock dead French soldiers, I thought I'd bring this to the attention of whom it may concern...

I didn't realize that France had combat Soldiers in Afghanistan. I am slightly less disgusted with France and I am grateful to these men who lost their lives in the fight against evil.

By the way, whoever told you it was "socially acceptable" to mock DEAD French soldiers, is a despicable human being.

Considering how the French in general appear to despise the U.S. and our foreign policy, I wonder if they respect their own brave soldiers.

Considering how the French in general appear to despise the U.S. - as the French diplomat once said "Americans should not be offended, the French don't like the French either" (from personal experience this is true). Sympathy for les infants de france who died fighting for their country and the freedom of mankind in foreign lands.

It's never acceptable to mock soldiers on "Our side"

That said, hang around with better friends.

Soldiers obey orders, they do not necessary reflect the view of their leaders.

They've had combat soldiers in Afghanistan since day one, and their airforce dropped the most tonnage of any nation in the initial actions, bar the US.

All the time when many were railing against the French for not taking part in the WOT, they have been doing just that.

Who told you such a thing? It is a sad loss for the world when men who are committed to defend liberty and defeat terrorism perish. May they rest in peace.

BTW, as much as I don't like french politics, I've really enjoyed my two trips to France over the last several years. I found the people to be nice (especially in the countryside) and I look forward to another trip.

Agreed. The French cultural elitist class (most of France) love to give the finger to the US, but they give the finger to each other as well. They're just bored snobs with too much free time on their hands.

There are French citizens who like the US (especially in the North of France... they remember WW2). These 2 French soldiers should be remembered as honorable men.

I wonder what our own special forces guys think of the French SF guys? How well trained are the French guys?

You need to respond to the criticism of of your comments, do you actually believe belittling the actions of soldiers is appropriate?

Please comment.

I don't read anyone criticizing AF's comments nor do I find his comments belittling.
