IREY: MURTHA DISSEMBLES ABOUT WAR -– AGAIN!

Friday, August 25, 2006

(MONONGAHELA, August 25) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to another misleading statement this week by Jack Murtha -- released the following statement:

"Once again, Jack Murtha is putting out 'facts' that just aren't facts. Earlier this week, Mr. Murtha used the announcement of a recall of Marines as an excuse to once again criticize the war effort. 'Bringing these Marines back to active duty after their tour of service was complete shows we are unable recruit [sic] the necessary volunteers to maintain troop levels in our armed forces,' he said.

"Nothing could be further from the truth. The sad fact is, even Mr. Murtha -- a decorated veteran with 37 years in the military, as we are constantly reminded -- would have known that, had he bothered to check his vaunted connections at the Department of Defense.

"According to Defense Department statistics released 13 days before he made his statement (available online at: DoD Announces Recruiting and Retention Numbers for July), the Marines have met and in fact surpassed their recruiting and retention goals: for the month of July, the Marine Corps' recruiting goal was 2,865, but they actually recruited 3,197 volunteers -- 112 percent of their goal. For the Fiscal Year that began on October 1, 2005, the Marine Corps recruiting goal through the end of July 2006 was 23,968; during that time period, the Marine Corps actually recruited 24,300 -- 101 percent of their goal.

"The other services are having similar recruitment successes:

"For the month of July, the Army's goal was to recruit 10,450; they actually recruited 10,890 -- 104 percent of their goal. For the Fiscal Year that began on October 1, 2005, the Army recruiting goal through the end of July 2006 was 60,150; during that time period, the Army actually recruited 62,505 -- 104 percent of their goal.

"For the month of July, the Navy's goal was to recruit 4,043; they actually recruited 4,043 -- 100 percent of their goal. For the Fiscal Year that began on October 1, 2005, the Navy recruiting goal through the end of July 2006 was 28,499; during that time period, the Navy actually recruited 28,499 -- 100 percent of their goal.

"For the month of July, the Air Force's goal was to recruit 2,121; they actually recruited 2,130 -- 100 percent of their goal. For the Fiscal Year that began on October 1, 2005, the Air Force recruiting goal through the end of July 2006 was 24,968; during that time period, the Air Force actually recruited 25,089 -- 100 percent of their goal.

"In other words, each of the four services is meeting or surpassing their recruiting goals, on both a monthly and an annual basis. Which means that once again, Jack Murtha is using 'facts' that are not facts to bolster his argument. This is a matter pertaining to the most important issue of our time, and Mr. Murtha has a responsibility to get the facts right.

"Now, one of two things is true: Either Jack Murtha knew he was not telling the truth when he misstated the facts, or he did not. If he knew he was not telling the truth, and said it anyway, he does not have the integrity necessary to be a Member of Congress. If he did not know he was not telling the truth, then he is not competent to be a Member of Congress.

"Which is it, Mr. Murtha?"

...wishing for days when traitors like this would have been put in the slammer, or deported.

Those days are long gone, so we can either let the SOB get away with this trash, or we can do something about it.

Murtha will hang his hat on the word "necessary" in his comment. "Unable recruit the necessary volunteers..."

The military is requiring this legal extension of active duty for a few skill specialties.

I would hit him on the words "tour of service complete."

They were not complete. If they were complete, then they couldn't be brought back to active duty. They sign papers to that effect when they enlist.

Irey's got looks AND brains--go girl! Murtha's got neither. Kind of sad to see the old soldier fade away so quickly.

Murtha has no integrity whatsoever. He HAD to know. There's no way he could have so ignorant of the facts. If any MSM lurkers find this thread, it's way past time Murtha was asked tough questions starting with why he'd assert such a bald-faced lie.

It's clear to me that Murtha's deceptions are all because he wants a bigger role in Congress. He doesn't care if he lies, smears, and consigns Iraqis to the same fate as the South Vietnamese. He doesn't care about our troops or the Iraqi people. He wants more power, a bigger expense account, more perks for his fat self. And he's willing to say or do anything to get his snout in a bigger Congressional trough. Shameful and disgusting.

It occurs to me that Murtha-Irey threads are a great place to post links and other information that tell the truth about what's happening in Iraq and refute Murtha's lies. He's painted himself in a corner and can't afford to acknowledge that we're winning in Iraq and in the War on Islamonutheads. Sandrat had a great post today about the Battle for Baghdad and how the tide has turned. Check it out!

It's not green recruits that are needed for a third tour. It's more senior Marines that are needed to prevent sending a bunch of these guys on their fourth or fifth tour. If they round up 2300 experienced marines from the reserves they can spread this out a little more fairly.

I'd go, but I'm 50 and fat.
