Online viewers will be able to watch live reports of memorial services through one of the feeds. So that viewers won't accidentally stumble upon graphic footage from 2001, the replay feed will be covered with a notice instructing users to click only if they want to watch.
"Our users may choose to view the stream of coverage from Sept. 11, or live coverage of memorial services at Ground Zero, or they may click through the numerous interactive elements on the site," said David Payne, senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com. "They have the power to determine the best way for them to remember the anniversary."
CNN is a unit of Time Warner Inc.
We need to be reminded.
Hah, are they going replay their on air idiot insisting that a small plane hit the tower. How it was a clear day and no excuse for such incompetence, etc etc.
Time/CNN released a DVD of the 9/11 attacks. I watch my copy whenever I feel I need to recall the horror and tradgedy of that day. That day will never be forgotten in my home.
I work a late shift job so I don't get up till mid morning. About 9 am, I woke up and put on all sports WEEI in Boston thinking they'd be talking about the Sox-Yankees pennant race but instead co-host John Dennis was heard to say, "We're going back to ABC news coverage now...a plane has hit one tower of the World Trade Center".
My cable TV had been out for a few days--city work crew had
accidentally cut line--so I had to rely on free TV (on a small black and white). Ironically enough, they were supposed to fix the problem about 10 or 11 am on September 11.
Saw second plane hit; report of what was thought to be a "car bomb" at the Pentagon, etc. It was chilling--we were at war and so much was happening at once.
Went to cable TV company HQ in my town so they could give me a refund of days without connection. TVs on behind the woman at the counter were all tuned to the coverage. Then I went to a pizza place for lunch; TV coverage was on in bar, but I sat in restaurant area (could hear TV though). Looked through paper and I thought to myself, "All this stuff in my Herald today--the
rumors of Michael Jordan coming back to play, and other stuff--it's all meaningless trivia now. We're in a different world now."
Listened to radio coverage and talk about it (and yes, did watch cable channels when my cable was restored). Many music radio stations were picking up news feeds, etc. Later, a friend of mine out West was complaining to me that he was having trouble finding music to listen to at work because of the coverage. Oh, fine, just great. Don't let all that stuff happening in NYC, DC, and Pennsylvania trouble you,
my friend. Nothing to see here...

They must be feeling it at this point. This leftist stuff isn't selling ads like it used to.
I predict a pretty good ratings bump.
Please don't. I really went through it once on the actual day. I don't need to be given the 24 hour coverage again. I bet Fox is going to have wall to wall coverage too. And FREEPERS is going to be loaded with posts about it. Why don't we only have positive posts that day. Every FREEPERS remembers that day. We support that President, pray for the families of the victims of 9/11 and support the troops now. Let's not have all the other coverage. The memorial service again with President Clinton, Carter etc. Ugh!
I wish Fox would do the same, I'd much rather watch it's coverage than CNN's.
I didn't have FoxNews on 9-11, cable company wouldn't carry it. I'd really like to see their coverage.
bump, ping!
It started off with a soap opera and then a news bulletin about JFK being shot and then they stayed with the coverage for the next 10 hours or so.
Two things I remember vividly is Jackie Kennedy in her blood stained dress watching the coffin being unloaded from Air Force One and the cigarette smoke that permeated on the screen as reporters were reporting the events of that day.
It was a great historical lesson.
Also if anyone has time, see the movie now showing "World Trade Center". The movie is a show of heros and miracles.
CNN may be trying to dig themselves out of the hole of airing that "glowing" documentary of Bin Laden.
Hopefully FoxNews will do same, because I swore I would never watch CNN again. Unfortunately, I still have to pay for that pathetic excuse for a news outlet.
They should put it on CNN TV for the day, and let Headline News carry the current live stuff. Maybe Fox would do it?
Bump for tomorrow!
